It existed and we said the system isn’t working during BFA beta when you could remove all your gear except Azerite then make your Azerite hit harder. How the system works makes it impossible to balance PvP, make adjustments or most importantly allow the players to HELP the Devs if something is coded wrong. Since they hid the code and kept trying to adjust it secretly.
The big issues are is that scaling is a LIE! The damage on my screen isn’t the same as the enemy. Then you can’t figure out if an upgrade is really an upgrade unless you duel and ask them what is the damage on their screen.
Item levels are attached to Scaling which means borrowed power can’t be scaled. So when 8.3 came out you can’t scale corruption and every other essence, azerite etc. You can also manipulate scaling to create more 1 shot vids if you watch Rextroy where he did tons of vids abusing the scaling system in a negative way to global players. ( exactly what Blizz and players didn’t want )
The only choice in SL is to remove it because of how it works other wise you can just wear High level conduits, Legendaries and drop the rest of your gear lvl to abuse scaling so something hits harder. Negating the entire purpose of the system.
I could go on and on about this terrible system but I think you get the point. There has to be transparency and the Devs are human how do we Beta test a hidden system that we don’t have information too? How do we tell them the math or ability or spell is hitting too hard? We can’t.
I also am a numbers guy and love seeing HUGE crits!! Scaling was a lie so my numbers didn’t matter. Sorry but all this is so important for the RPG experience.
Its the only reason I play this game and RPG games. If it doesn’t exist no point in playing. The whole point of logging in and getting powerful gear is to then take that power into PvP and own it up. To theorycraft some super powerful build and dominate. It’s an RPG and I love that and so do most players.
You don’t need balance for great PvP you just need it to be really fun RPG PvP.
I understand that but it undermines the point of the game. It’s not plug and play PvP it’s attain power first and then you can eventually compete on equal footing. The big issue now is that the gearing process is terrible and there is too much RNG. The gearing process is supposed to be the most fun part of the game and create excitement to que up some PvP.
PvP has to be a 2 step process in this game
- Gear up to attain power so you can be competitive
- Develop skills with that power to become a better player
There should always be a gear advantage that is what drives us. Of course you can eliminate any gear advantage by getting the best gear.
Keep in mind PvP is balanced around Max level gear vs Max level gear. So when you don’t get gear you aren’t supposed to be equal. That is just the beautiful nature of RPG games and why we love them.
I just don’t understand games where there is no gear progression in PvP it’s so boring which is why I don’t play them. I don’t know what solution can be achieved to make you happy without hurting someone else. Since I am most definitely here to have a gear advantage. Most of us are.
The more you try to balance PvP with these systems so it is more skill based is the instance where we then lose the core aspect of the game for RPG players so then what happens is No one is happy. The people that love RPGs aren’t and the players that love only skill based aren’t. It’s hybrid mess.
I think PvP in this game should embrace the RPG aspect but then focus on more objective team based formats for competitive PvP so you need skill to do that. Arena as a whole doesn’t really work for RPGs.
Final point - The only reason I ever got into Arena in TBC was to get Gear so I could enjoy doing BGs with better gear. I do Arena for the gear. If there isn’t a shiny reward that gives me power then for me… why bother. I been this way for 20 years of online RPG games it’s what I like and it won’t miraculously change so that is why I am here.
