“This is WoD 2.0 blizz ran out of all content bc of covid and all the harassment stuff. We’ll get something amazing like Legion next expansion!!!”
Sure Legion came from WoD and was really good but it truly was a one time thing. They pulled every stop to make it good:
give players OP lore relevant hype generating artifact weapons (first instance of borrowed power and it was new and cool enough for people to like)
story about some of the most important characters and villains in all of WC history (illidan was super hyped since WC3 and BC, plenty of other amazing chars in class order hall campaign)
class order halls and class story lines to keep players engaged in their classes fantasy
an entire endgame zone (suramar) that had great accessibility (portals), good story, amazing visuals
77 day patch cycle meaning you almost literally never ran out of content (7.2 was a little bit of a slump but mage tower and secret mounts being added helped too)
plenty of stuff like the magetower, deaths of chromie, secret mounts, all weaved throughout the expac so you never felt bored
plenty of raids, and a new dungeon every patch (plus return to kara was hype)
a well in advance knowledge that we would be going to argus in 9.3 and they DELIVERED. It was a 3 zone new world basically.
What is the content we have been shown in comparison? 5 zones, no systems, guild wars 2 flying that you can upgrade, revamped talents.
One of those zones is a leveling zone.
While people may feel relieved by no systems, they were really the only reason people played the game, with no progression but gear people will get burned out super quickly.
The flying looks kinda cool but its realistically not going to be amazing enough to be warranted as “content”. They said it would be like spiderman swinging where you do it naturally to get from place to place but I have zero faith they can create anything 1/10th as enjoyable as that.
The revamped talents is a good idea for leveling but it will be mostly ignored after people get to max level. After that it will go back to cookie cutter, at least they are removing restrictions.
I’m just not seeing how it’s possible for their smaller, less experienced team to even deliver something remotely as good as Legion. Dragonflight might be alright, but WoW is far from saved.
It also doesnt help they give bobby a 15 million dollar bonus every time his yacht needs a tune up. All that money should be spent on the GAMES.
Literally no one knows what’s going to happen, it could be worse than Shadowlands or it could be better than Legion. We know extremely little on what is even in the expansion so saying how it’ll do this or that for WoW is pointless.
Sure but at least Legions trailer and dev announcements showed SOMETHING. As it stands DF seems to severely lacking in content that will make people stay. No artifact, no order hall, nothing. It will be played like crazy for 1-2 months and probably die off. If they have a 70 day patch cycle MAYBE they can stave off the low numbers
I don’t think Dragonflight was ever designed to save anything. I think it was designed as a turning point to set up WoW to be on a better path. If successful I think history will remember it as the groundwork for future expansions that “saved” WoW.
Zero problem with dragon flying its a cool looking system and a unique solution to people wanting flying to start. But its legitimately the only unique content thats a part of the dragon isles
And those people who are praising legion now are the ones that liked it cause 7.3 gave you a complete full artifact weapon, with all artifact talents maxed out and such
Along with a change like mage tower that even your cat can jump on the keyboard and still clear your mage tower challenge with 7.3 argus catch up gear
Legion was supposed to be that, BFA was supposed to be that, Shadowlands was supposed to be that. In all cases they basically said they were listening. Well guess what we can only go by how the expansion turned out not what they said.
Legion was the only semi successful one for a reason: tons of passion, content, and time was put into it. It was about characters and classes that people cared about. Just promising to listen doesnt make a good expac
Wow like there are different opinions. I know people say they don’t like borrowed power, but there will be a very rude awakening when you see that no one will even want to play after a while because of lack of things to do and rewards to do them for. It doesnt even have to be player power, but I said it should be bc thats the highest motivator for people
It could be actually cool mounts as a reward from dragon torghast (make it not mandatory).
