I see people here complaining about not getting invited to groups after sending out dozens of applications, but they don’t seem to think of running their own key.

This was my strategy this season!
I’d say the one issue I’ve seen with other groups is if their friends are just bad.

No, that’s the reason why you do run your own keys. Since you need a tank, but you’re just another dime-a-dozen dps, bringing your own key gives you something to offer to the group. The tank may need that trinket from your dungeon.

ILVL 620 GUARDIAN Druid. lol. Asking why dps doesn’t run their own keys. You can’t make this up.
Tanks and heals can filter out people lower than 2000 score. They can cherry pick anything they want. A 0 score dps cannot progress with their own key.

you know dps players aren’t going to be happy until blizzard somehow forces tanks and healers to play with them exactly when they want them to. any solutions you offer besides that are gonna be shot down by forum mains.
“Just run your own Key” has to be the dumbest argument that gets floated around here. And that’s saying a lot!
Let’s look in the queue right now. I’m trying to get Heroic boots from SoB, so I’m looking at +8s. So let’s look at this group:
Tank and a healer!! BOOM! The group is basically done! Esp with dps a dime for TEN dozen, this will instantly fill!
The group rating is 377, and the highest SoB the leader has done is a +4. The highest Key they’ve done is a +3 MoTS.
So I ask you: would you join this group?
I mean… you can imagine he was trying to join other +8s, and with a 377 rating, wasn’t getting too many requests to join.
But he … “RAN HIS OWN KEY!”
That’s all it takes, right?
If you can’t get accepted to Key, odds are, people aren’t going to join your Keys, either. It doesn’t matter which side of the equation you’re on, people are still using the same stupid prejudices that make running Keys such a miserable experience.
The only solution, is running with friends/guild, etc.
In any 2 hour gaming block, I can easily run (AND TIME!!!) four Keys. We have fun, when we make mistakes, we make sure to learn and get better for next time. Always a win-win.
Last night I spent 2 hours trying to get into a +8 SoB… I ran it ONCE. Tank was a flake, healer was weak… we didn’t time it.

i do and even building my own team it takes roughly 1+ hour to build a group. no one joins a group without a tank or a healer. Even if you find one its usually underqualified one.

Well if you’re DPS, no one wants to sit in LFG for an hour or so before someone requests to join.

Because of laziness. Saw these “DPS can’t get into keys” all during DF as my crappy mage was getting into keys within a minute of applying on average.

This is the most convoluted hyperbolic situation you’ve cooked up where somebody managed to end up with a +8 but have sub 1k io that I’m assuming you’re just lying to make some point. Also trying to run a key you have no business running is not at all what anybody is suggesting. Assuming you’re not lying, that keyholder is an idiot trying to run a +8 SoB if they have only done a +4 SoB and should have dropped it down to a +5 unless they are banking on some group to carry them. And assuming you’re not lying, I’m willing to bet said person is not going to be anywhere geared to either heal or tank said +8 unless we have yet another convoluted situation where they were literally just sat in delves this entire time not touching M+ or they were literally getting funneled gear in their heroic/mythic raid group.
So again you’re either lying or trying to make this glue sniffer point that “running your own key” equals “beg for better players carry you” and saying “run your own key” doesn’t work because people don’t want to carry an undergeared rat character/a person who has no business doing that key level well above what they have timed. If I got a +13 CoT key it would 100% make sense not alot of folks are gonna apply to my key since the highest I’ve done is +9.

to be fair ive seen tanks post their own keys. only to start the key and completely trip and fall over the place because they dont know group comps or what should they and shouldnt pull.
city of threads is a nightmare for new tanks.
also tanking actually takes some talent and knowledge of the dungeons unlike UNGABUNGA DPS AND GO.

the decision to go solo and not join a guild/community/discord or otherwise network with other players is certainly one someone can make.
there are repercussions to decisions
