Dragon Age, DOTA, Castlevania, and of course the gold standard Arcane…why don’t we have a WOW series on Netflix? Surely the characters and setting and 30+ years of world building could deliver a fantastic show. Why don’t we hear of anything on this front?
Hell, all of your voice actors are pumping out amazing content in Critical Role…they are more than ready to bring Jaina, Turalyon, Illidan, etc to Netflix (though I’d wager their price went up considerably given how busy they’ll be with Crit Role for the next few years).
Please Blizz?

Probably cause it would be based off Warcraft 1 and medivh would just be moonwalking everywhere. Then somehow thrall will come up and be like greymanes forces hold this warden tower. Oh also cause Netflix will can it after 1 season no matter how well it does.

Bad reputation from blizzard. Overwatch two hasn’t helped.
Though Netflix might find gold with Starcraft.

I think they would ruin it. Some of the greatest story elements in wow have been the shorts and content/xpac machinima and I would love to see them flesh it all out into a series but I also worry it might end up too political/agenda driven (seeing as how most things in Hollywood go that way)… would have to be a purely inhouse thing that they maintained control over.
Would really like to see a diablo or starcraft series too.

I’d only trust it if they can get the WC3 writers to supervise the entire thing.

I just don’t see them making that mistake again after the movie.
Maybe this is why they hired Chris Metzen back?

Blizz isn’t known for sharing, so while Dota and Arcane were great to watch imo, it’s hard to see Blizz wanting to give Netflix a cut.
They might also think streaming adaptations aren’t profitable since their movie endeavor bombed so badly (except in China, which at present doesn’t even allow their citizens to play WoW).

When is Overwatch storymode supposed to come anyways? That was announced ages ago.

does it have a story? did project titan ever get a story?
They made a live version of The Last of Us for streaming, can’t see why Diablo couldn’t be done as a series.
WoW would be more difficult because it has so many stories scattered across so many expansions. Just about any one they picked half the players would be annoyed that their favorite wasn’t being done.
However, I’d love to see a quality animation series on WoW, especially if it was something approaching the quality of the high quality cinematics.

It was planned to be a selling point of overwatch 2, adding a storymode to overwatch that is.

Imagine a WoW show by the people who made edgerunners. It would be an absolute banger.

But they must see that Fantasy is at a high point in popularity, and could bring a lot of attention to the IP.
While WC3 is the best wow storyline they’ve ever done, it might be good to distance it from the game’s story. Go back further than WC1 imho, and tell the story of the Arathi and meeting the high elves. Make the main characters Trollbane and Sunstrider. That would be great to see.
If they did WC3, they’d end up “reimagining” it, and pissing off a bunch of built in fans. Tell something new, or smaller scale. Like, basically the story of some adventurers like us.

As I said, they already did adaptations of games much less popular than wow.
You have to keep in mind that Blizz is the smallest revenue source among Activision, King, and Blizzard games. If ActiBlizz corporate needs to sign off on any profit-sharing of their IP to a cinematic studio and distribution channel (e.g., Netflix), that’s even more reason that we likely won’t see anything as cool as Dota & Arcane. The corporate bean-counters are often completely out of touch with novel revenue vectors (like fantasy being at a high point in live-action/animation).
i already know why, alot of shows on netflix based on games, tend to not be a good one.
the halo one so far is an example.
Can you even imagine a series written by Danuser…
Where you only get 1 episode every 8 months that contains plot points that won’t be explained for 69 episodes…
And at the end, all the story is lit on fire and farted on by Danny, “some robot with nipples did all of this” as you wonder why you waited 75 years to watch season 1
