Think about it: We have portals, guns that can shoot lasers and resize things, we have so many machinery items in WOW even a damn time machine yet we can’t take 10 minutes and develop a cellphone or robots that can man the portals instead of npcs holding portals open all dauy?

I’m fairly sure we have phones in WoW, since we can do Selfies and every NPC ever can always talk to us regardless of physical distance.

Also a ton of robots. From magi-tech to straight up mechanical works of science fiction with sentience.
As for why these aren’t more widespread? Well the common folks seem poor as dirt and just as common, and everyone else can basically use magic… so technology just isn’t as useful to them, on occasions where it is or in the case of engineers… you see it alot.
For example, Harry Potter as a setting has technology, we see this plainly…however you’ll note aside from the car that there isn’t much there except the occasional laptop?
Why would wizards need most modern conveniences when they have magical spell equivalents? You don’t need a gun when a stick and some words will do.

Dreanei do have cellphones. Their heritage quest literally give them hologram crystals that act as phones and teleporters

For harry potter they actually get into this. Too much magical energy messes with the technology.
Some try to make magi-tech, like Arthur and Sirius black but that was made illegal because too many n@zi like wizards were making magi-tech to kill muggles. Also known as muggle baiting.
That and the wizards in the Harry Potter universe are very conservative. So conservative to the point that even upgrading the speed of their brooms was looked down on.

The day they put cellphones ingame is the day I wander off.
Watching toons walk around with their faces in their phones isn’t interesting.

Then you gotta leave. It’s in the game as a hearthstone for dreanei do to their heritage quest line.
They get a hologram crystals that contains a communication spell to talk to one another and a teleporter. Best hearthstone in the game. Magi-tech star trek communicator and “beam me up”

- radios
- airships
- motorcycles
- gyrocopters
- tech goggles
- laser guns
- mechsuits
- a literal spaceship
- rockets
- aliens
And that same list applies to Warhammer 40K as well. Very sci-fi.
