lol…telling me that they dont HAVE to behave that way just makes it worse, lmao.
You do understand human nature, no?
Put a timer out there and its just human nature to try to beat it. Its part of who most people just are. They want to ‘win’…even if the ‘win’ is meaningless.
Where ?? are we even seeing the same thread ?
speak for yourself, son. I dont bother trying to get high end gear as a casual. You do a lot of assuming and projecting, thats for sure.
If I had to guess, there are two real components to the dislike of timers:
-
timers lead to a dissolution of the social aspect of the content. One of the perks of group content used to be the ability to make friends while playing. You’d meet other people, chat about strategy, have time to engage a little, and maybe make a few friends along the way.
Three guilds I’ve been a part of were found entirely thanks to grouping with someone who seemed both good and nice, so I then inquired about their guild, and joined it. -
It compounds the frustration of wiping. Dying is already frustrating, adding a timer to it doubles that - which is a big part of why so many people bail on pug M+ groups.
Maybe blizzard can add a button called “hide timer”. That way the casuals don’t see the timer, but its still there and if they happen to do it fast enough and without wipes, it upgrades their key.
I could be on board with some sort of hide timer button to appease the casuals tbh.
Sooo…list as “completion run”…others who don’t mind wiping etc will join, not your ppl who want to time. You people expect the rest of us to join in good faith that you’re not intentionally creating a wipefest without stating in title as such. Therefore after 3 wipes to trash before first boss, we leave. We are branded toxic, elitist, etc. There is not a timer on completion runs. Stop being trivial.
Yep. It is human nature. Thats why the timer GASP exists! Because people want to naturally overcome challenges when presented with them. But that doesn’t mean you can just make a group that says “completion” or “non timed” and casually play the way you want to play with other players who want to do the same.
They wont do this, because the timer is vital.
But players who would be concerned can simply find a script to turn off the whole timer box via toggle.
Very easy to do if you are really worried about the pressure.
First of all… I wasn’t saying I don’t like timers. I was providing you with information about why PEOPLE don’t like timers because you seem to be incapable of understanding anyone else’s feelings at all.
And yes, you probably are toxic if you leave before the first boss because of a wipe or two. But, given the insulting tone of your reply here, I would say you probably ARE toxic, even when you don’t bail on a run. lol
Scaling health, damage, affixes are the challenge. Not some arbitrary timer.
I mean they are changing it in the next patch (or maybe it was hotfixed, I haven’t done an M+ in a while), but currently/previously it rewarded you with more loot and now it was very unrewarding since you had a 20% chance of getting loot which means you’re looking at needing to run 5 dungeons for a piece of gear.
I still dislike the timer system though. I’d be fine with it for cosmetics, titles, achievements, mounts, pets, etc but I’d rather let dungeons be dungeons.
And at the end of the run you get a big failed key pop up. Killing the final boss should never be a failure.
So, you usually wipe on trash 3 times before first boss and that seems normal to you? And I’m toxic? How about not expecting ppl to stay for hours and numerous repairs bc you can’t get to boss?
In the same way nobody is forcing you to be BIS, Fotm , e.tc. there is nothing adverse that is going to happen to you if you don’t do it . Yet you use the same “nobody is forcing you to complete timer” as your defense ? lmao
Pot meets kettle I guess
No, it’s not normal. But if I join a group, I’m making a commitment to the other people in that group that I’ll ride it out until the group as a whole decides to call it.
If we’re constantly wiping I may suggest that this isn’t looking completable with the group and gear we have and ask if people want to call it. But I won’t bail on them if they want to continue.
So ya, you’re being toxic by bailing on people after a few minor mishaps. Yep.
Yet speedrunning is one of the most competitive gaming niches on any platform right?
Especially because WoW does actually give things for completing the dungeon, this just is not relevant.
If you didn’t even get weekly vault credit, I might be more likely to agree.
This for sure.
I was on my Druid healing for the first time in like 6 years in a normal dungeon low level 50s. First time healing, haven’t been on my Druid in forever. this tank, who clearly did mythic+ for a living based on the shortcuts he was taking, was running ahead not waiting for anybody like he had somewhere else to be. When someone pulled an extra pack - not being familiar with the mythic shortcuts - he starts getting mad. Someone did it again, and he starts saying “do you even play with your eyes open?” And “How did you even make it to level 55”?
We wiped because two of the dps looked like they were new and didn’t know the fight, and after all that ridicule in party chat he says “guys I’m trying to be nice”…
I remember that because it was me. It was me who pulled the extra packs.
Some people like Dark Souls. Others like Mario speed runs. Not everyone wants a Dark Souls speed run.
I don’t really mind the timer, but I do miss back when timed runs were reserved for achievements and cosmetics, rather than tying actual gear progression to it.
I’d much prefer if difficulty were increased in ways that weren’t just ‘how much trash can you skip and still get the minimum required number to meet the conditions’ and ‘how many packs can your team AoE at once?’… but it’s certainly not something I’d quit over.
I rarely bail, but if u think I’m staying 3 hours for a 30 minute run, spending my gold on repairs , all because you or someone like you, didn’t do their homework --then call me what u will. Sorry but I value my time. Not many who can complete it would. I don’t leave after a wipe. They happen. But if you can’t get to boss bc you’ve no idea why trash killed you repeatedly? I’m going onward to a group that does have an idea.
