I get it… it’s Ez faceroll content, but I swear it’s like people go out of their way to NOT socialize in groups. Compare that to Wrath Classic and groups are always social and fun. Is RDF to blame? I just started playing retail again 2 days ago after exclusively playing classic tbc/wrath for the past few months and the lack of any social aspect really sucks
Find a guild, you’re comparing a game with communities that have existed for over a decade, of which many people who show positive social traits stay in their already developed circles.
This is an issue mainly in PuGs. Guilds and Communities have a ton of social people.
ALWAYS??
I seem to recall not socializing on classic as well
But to answer your question, mindless chit chat doesn’t benefit the group. Every second you spend talking about your cat are additional seconds spent in the dungeon. When we could be that much further ahead and close to doing another dungeon.
I really wanna make a cheap joke about the classic community being toxic but I’m not.
It definitely is the lack of LFD in classic though. People directly forming a group of people from their server will always lead to more social interaction than an algorithm doing it. The funny thing is the classic community wants LFD now. I remember before classic WoW’s release, people cheered the death of the LFD addon claiming that LFD killed the social aspect of the game in retail.
Pugs I’m in are usually pretty social, just the other day when I was doing rotation practice for Destro in a normal run everybody was having a blast meming without eachother.
Wrath is not social, I have been playing it since vanilla classic and it was literally just “need 1 more at stone to summon” “oh we need a tank/healer”, there have only been a handful of times in the few years that were actually sociable.
TBF at this point the retail and classic communities are basically indistinguishable.
The only difference is that classic players sweat over easier content.
I socialize as much as I do here.
in AB I only need to do callouts.
3 inc LM. I don’t need share my thoughts on pineapple pizza.
3 inc IBT for Av…same thing.
Dungeon I will say hi if someone says. Unless…the tank on a he-man on roids kick has started to pull when the whole crew ain’t even there. then its rush to handle business.
I am an older gamer. I can type in chat. or work rotations. the apm is not there to chat and play anymore. one or the other. one of these has the dungeon go much smoother.
Why don’t people socialize in groups on retail?
Because this is their 934204th group they have been in this year, and they’re sweat no-life grinding their way to the very tip top of the playerbase and have no interest in having the same conversation they had 40000 times already. Simple as that. BC and Vanilla were slower, gentler times with fewer people.
Doubt
Yeah sorry but classic is no different.
Did many heroic dungeon world tours where it was nothing but “heya” and then silence.
Which is the same as retail.
Be the change you want to see in the game, if you want people to be social, try saying “heya” followed by, “how’s it going” or “how are you liking that class”
I don’t mind LFD in retail, but I’m glad it’s not in classic.
In groups ? which groups ?
RDF dungeons is a poor representation of the only ppl who do dungeons lolz.
To be fair to us, the APM has gone up in general too. There was a lot more time to fit chitchat in between vanilla rotations than there is now.
Hop in a Discord VC and you will complain people are socializing too much.
Not reasonable to ask people to hit their buttons and also type in chat.
Chances are I’m never going to see those people again.
And a lot of times I’m feeling rather introverted.
That be like basing the quaility of classic social aspects on a SoTa pull in bg anywhere.
take a bg like strands not many like (I see why now)
take sometime ego/toxic of pvp as it gets sometimes
and throw in even half the bugs strands still gets weeks later.
and now…we have a dysfunctional as hell party up in the chat.
Sounds like a Horde issue my guy. I don’t really have that problem. It happens sometimes that it’s quiet but it’s normal. Chit chat takes up time but usually we greet each other.
Dungeon and Instance design is not conducive to socialization unless you’re with a premade group who understand to take it slow enough to communicate.
It’s a real problem with WoW players. Every moment spent typing a response on the keyboard is a moment that could have been spent just clearing trash.
