Why Don't People Enjoy PvP?

I’m mainly curious about casual pvp like random BGs or world pvp.

What about the gamemode do you not enjoy?

The barrier to actual entry is really high as you don’t need to just understand your class, but every other class you could run into INCLUDING how they work together in an extremely fast paced environment compared to the rest of WoW.

World PvP is a poor training ground for rated PvP and with gear differences it’s never fun being smoked by the Tauren Paladin who has exclusively been playing PvP and learning how to grief the newbie since he logged in for the first time.

Add ons are somehow even more essential to PvP than PvE which I didn’t even think was possible so you need to do your homework on match-ups, your class, other classes, add ons, consumes, different builds for different comps, picking the right fight at what time, and be in a cool enough mental state against arguably one of the most toxic branches of WoW content.

Or you can download DBM and raid. Up to you.

The rampant toxicity.

Not that it doesn’t exist in PvE, it sure does, but BG chat is some of the worst I’ve seen. I just wanna go around and attack other folks, man.

Honestly? Just way too complicated for what it’s worth.

I used to do some competitive games like League of Legends. That stuff was fun and easy enough to at least do the basics. 4 main abilities (usually), that you could use in plenty of different scenarios with your teammates to get victory. Sweet.

WoW PvP though? Way too much

I don’t care for it mostly because I’m not great at it.

Sometimes I do have fun in random bgs but always just goofing around. There’s a lot who take even non rated way to seriously and it gets pretty hot headed sometimes.

I don’t do rated because some of those players will just lose their minds. And the competitiveness just isn’t my style at all.

Honestly I feel like people who are super into pvp join the game for pvp, and everyone else just tries it once in awhile.

Mean people

I don’t know why but seeing your dorky lil gnome with glasses say ‘mean people’ as the reason PvP isn’t engaged with just made me sad like who could possibly be mean to you you’re adorable

Balancing issues, and not just between spec A and spec B, but in the overworld, you could roam to an area and there be 2 horde and 35 alliance, or vice versa, and it’s just not worth it either way.

Blizzard has neglected it for years.

There was a time, back when PvP servers existed, where it was treated as an alternative to PvE. There was a good amount of people going between both.

It still kind of is- just that you’re gonna be punished for doing it, by having gear that’s worse than M+ gear in PvE.

But at least if anyone attacks you in Warmode, in M+ gear, you can demolish them.

Today, WoW is predominantly a M+ game. Most of the resources go there, and the game is balanced around it, to the dismay of everyone else.

I haven’t PvP for a number of expansions, but from my past experiences, it may be any of these:

  • the entry barrier: if you haven’t started when everyone else did, you’ll have to deal with the whoopings by geared players until you get geared yourself.

  • the work you have to put in for not only knowing your class in a PvP setting but the strengths and weaknesses for all other classes

  • dealing with all the one-shotting and stun locking

  • meta and class balancing

  • players not following BG strats or sticking with strats that don’t always work

  • Lack of player cooperation

PvPers are abusive people that I’d prefer not to have anything to do with.

Because the glory days of going to Hillsbrad Foothils and killing a dozen players that are one-third of your level are gone

Blizz purposely lags pvp progression behind pve and it naturally hurts it. Inflation takes an entire season to ramp up for pvp. In pve, your “inflation” is gear upgrades and blizz nerfing mechanics. All of that generally happens within a few weeks of a season launch. Pvp doesn’t get exciting til the final month of a season.

I play both pve and pvp. I had two toons both ksm/aotc and 438+ item level within 6 weeks of the season coming out. For pvp, in 6 weeks they had maybe 4 pieces of conquest gear and still in honor gear blues with most not having any tier sets. Blizz purposely lags pvp behind pve.

I made it a point this season to just pve first and finish everything while inflation ramps, then do pvp the second half of the season. It hasn’t ended yet so I can’t say how that’s working out but so far so good I guess.

Pizza vs. Pie is not a debate I am willing to have again.

Probably because PVP is just bad all around right now. Blizzard had no idea what they were doing when they gave some people so much control. Dodging kicks while also eating X amount of CC while trying to heal people through ridiculous amounts of dmg just isn’t fun.

Balancing issues, I don’t like most of the maps, matches tend to be one sided, and needing the separate gear/talents.

I don’t like how gear matters in pvp. I would pvp again if everyone showed up with the same stats, level, ilvl, gear score etc.

I’ve had very fun nights of pvp, but also very bad nights. Pve tends to be more… stable and consistent.

people leave. this is why. they get upset losing. whenever i see a premade bg random, i quit. it is unfair. i decided to stop and wait a new one.
