Why Don't I Feel Hyped for The War Within?

I just don’t understand. Dragonflight gave me huge hype, I was so excited and into that. I even remember being hyped and excited to experience Warlords of Draenor when it first came out and given how I’m feeling right now leading up to TWW, I’m kind of missing that experience.

I was waiting to feel all raring to go, ready to gear up and excited to just get down to business and level all my alts and my professions like I normally do, but I haven’t really felt this. Small fleeting glimpses of it sure but barely there at all and they don’t last for more than 30 seconds.

I guess I just don’t feel so into this whole “World Soul Saga” idea/thing. In advance it just feels convoluted and once again we have this big bad I don’t know anything about. I think I really just feel deflated by this lack of “build-up” to anything, just bam here’s villain.

Why can’t we ever have something like the Lich King again? Where he was relevant in all aspects, changed things in the lore of the world everywhere? What are we moving towards? Are we moving towards anything? Is the Void going to be this new Burning Legion?

I don’t even know what I’m looking towards anymore as a player.

Probably because it looks boring.

I like the themes of War Within on a micro scale. But fully honest, three xpacs in a row of old god/void stuff when it’s already been pretty prominent, it’s giving me major over done orc and demon vibes.

Personally im excited for tww.
Its hitting all the right notes for me.
Void, earthen, delves, the zones. Theres lots to love.

I dont know why youre feeling the way you are.
But i get it. I felt nothing towards the release of dragonflight myself. It was just something that was there and happened.
Probably because i dont care about dragons.
So if you dont care about the void or xalatath (who has been around since legion btw :stuck_out_tongue: ) then yeah.

Hopefully you enjoy it when its out.

I couldnt stand BFA…hated SL…loved DF.
2 of the last 3 expansions were total stinkers.
Im scared to buy TWW for fear it’ll make it 3 of 4 that smell like sewage.
Rather go out on a good note with DF and leave it.

I’ll wait till I see a lot of great reviews for TWW. If so, I’ll buy it. If not, I’ll wait till its free with the sub to play.

Because people cried hard when they tried this again in Cata.

If you got hyped for Dragonflight you can get hyped for anything. This expansion was completely void of content.

Maybe I just need to look at it from a different angle, do some lore reading on the Void and stuff, maybe getting myself back into the swing of “Oh I know what this is again” might help.

It does feel just, out of touch. We went from “elemental dragons” to “darkness is hurting the planet more than usual”.

It’s the first part in a trilogy focused on rock dwarves and spiders. Neither of which sets the souls of gamers aflame.

It’s also very low key atm and pretty short - 4 zones themed around fixing some stuff and beating back insects. Some LOVELY environmental art etc but a lack of anything really new. Delves, sure. And the new race… if you like Dwarves which a lot of people don’t. There are also rumours that the 11.1 raid will be… goblins. -.- Which again, isn’t what gets people excited.

My guess is towards the end of the expansion when the Old God stuff kicks in? People will get hyped. And a huge invasion by the Void Lords in 12.0 will be thrilling. But this? Meh.

Adding things like Devoured at the last minute really kills the hype for me. Removing the chore affixes from M+ was one of the things that hyped me up the most for TWW. Seeing afflicted 2.0 return with 100% negative feedback and no comment from Blizz kills one of the things I was looking forward to the most. And as a mostly M+ player, the state of M+ dungeons looks awful. Bad dungeon pool, crazy overtuned trash, mechanic bloat… and now we get to worry about the dispel mini game again. Blizz’s strange design choices and lack of communication are what’s preventing people from being hyped for TWW.

Me too.

I used to feel so hyped for each new expansion drop but this time I can’t seem to muster those feelings again for some reason. Maybe I’m just a bit exhausted with people arguing about and putting each other down over pixels. Maybe it’s the bugs. Maybe it’s just where I am in life now. I don’t know really. :woman_shrugging:

I really wasn’t hyped up for DF, but it has been the best since Legion (and in some sense it’s even better.) Meanwhile I was pumped up for WoD and Shadowlands, and well we know what happened.

I stopped being hyped for WOW for a very long time. If the new expansion looks fun I’ll just play it, if it doesn’t i will not.

That simple.

Its called being older… you can still look forward to things but its harder to get giddy with excitement

To be fair, tww is a direct lead in from dragonflight.
This is what iridikron was doing in the dawn of the infinite mega dungeon.

the story and getting ‘back on track’ towards an arcing narrative are improvements.

However, the mechanical and design implementation by Bliz is very disheartening.

I fell for the Metzen hype but spent the time between that and now away playing other games and seeing this company do their thing once again here now…the enthusiasm is already draining out of me.

Same old mistakes, same old arrogance that will result in backlash and reluctant changes after the fact. This pre-patch should never have launched as originally planned, they did not need feedback to know that, they have all the player experience they need to know better. But they did it anyways.

Other games don’t require you to go through it, they really don’t, and it’s tiring to see the cycle starting up once again here.

I bet it is really good, we just need to get into it. Dragonflight was really good and I’m betting it’s much like it. Just a long last season.

I don’t much like the “awakened” concept anymore.

Sitting around twiddling our thumbs, no wonder things don’t feel so fresh, new content is being met with criticism. That only makes sense to me.

same old faild stuf delves are just scenarios rebranded and more dungeon and raids with the same mechanics we have for the past 20 years

I mean, there can’t be another thing like the Lich King, because he had existing build-up in the RTS before WoW ever launched. When Blizzard tries to pull a Lich King level entity now, people don’t buy into it, because it comes across as shallow or necessitates a bunch of retcons (see: Lei Shen for the former, The Jailer for the latter).

The alternative is taking another 3+ expansions to slowly build something up, but those expansions have to have their OWN stuff going on and inevitably some of that is going to fall flat due to not having prior buildup.

I suppose that’s part of what they’re trying to do with The Worldsoul Saga. They’re building up a story over multiple expansions.

And that’s probably part of why there’s less hype for TWW specifically, too. People KNOW this is a setup expansion more than anything else.

I’ve seen more hype for Midnight, which we know almost nothing about, than I have for TWW, Though that might be skewed by how much people here like Elves in general.

All of that, and, honestly, at a certain point of playing the same game, it doesn’t really matter what’s coming. New content is nice and something to look forward to, but you know the game will still largely be the same, so the excitement of a new release dies down a lot. That doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with what’s actually releasing.

To be fair Illidan beating the crap out of Sargeras 24/7/365 is still cool. That said for everything cool we have the Jailer, who has the charisma of an Artichoke.
