A Name for their own world? Why did they copy the Draenei?
Had the Orcs already evolved into using language yet when the Draenei named it Draenor?
The ogres and Arakkoa have names.
Skill issue.
Because, for a time, they had decent/good relations with the Draenei.
Ogres called it “Dawgar” (The Known Earth)
Arrakoa called it “Rakshar” (“the Sunstone”)
Botani didn’t really have a name for it, but they’re intelligent enough to.
Not every race seemingly cared about that, like the Orcs.
Likely because they (Orcs and Botani) didn’t have an idea of going “beyond the planet”- Ogres, Arrakoa, and certainly Draenei knew it wasn’t the only planet out there. They have stargazers and whatnot.
I imagine Orcs called it Dawgar just like the Ogres did (Orcs being relatives of Ogres), until the Draenei came along, and they probably liked their name for it even more.
Orcs hated the Ogres way more than they hated the Draenei, at least before they were fel-corrupted.
There’s probably no real lore reason tbh.
Well I think that should change.
Orcs just called it “the world”, they didn’t need a word for a specific world when that world was the only one they knew.
It was only after they learned about Azeroth that they felt the need to specify which world they were talking about.
It’s kinda like how most cultures IRL didn’t have a word for “blue” back in ancient times.
Blue is a really rare color in nature, and if the only blue thing in your life is the sky, you don’t need a word for blue, you can just say “sky” lol
Sounds more like a name you’d give to a moon than to a planet.
The same reason it will always be the Gulf of Mexico.
I find this a bit unfair that only alliance races get to name things.
They did. They called it “world”.
Orcs are simple.
The main language is common so of course everything is named the common version.
The Draenei called it the Gulf of Mexico and the orcs chose to name it the Gulf of America, but you hate orcs because you refuse to use the name the orcs decided on for themselves? I’m trying to figure out what the reason is here. I didn’t even know orcs and Draenei named a random body of water on earth. I think I missed that in the news.
Missing the orc in the everyday news is kind of a flex, tbh
Thts the ingame explanation yeah, the outside explanation: blizzard forgor/didnt though far ahead.
Just like they named a orcish clan DRAGONmaw, when there was no dragons in draenor, or when a clan was named BLACKROCK, due to blackrock mountain in azeroth.
They eventually said it wasn’t dragonmaw, it was some other bs name, and they said they also had a blackrock montain in draenor.
The other stuff you mentioned are right, but I’m not sure about this one.
I’d have to read Rise of The Horde again to be sure, but I could bet there’s something there about them just calling the world “world”.
You’re correct, but Draenor’s name predates Rise of the Horde by about a decade.
I live in that area so I use the draenei name. Always called that, so never plan to change. Guess I’m a draenei then.
I like how you’re so unhinged over the name of a body of water that even though it has nothing to do with World of Warcraft you had to bring it up and then proudly double down on the ridiculousness by taking my humorous post seriously. Gotta love people who make everything about real world politics.
I like to say “your age is showing” when people do that.
Generally older folks that tune into that stuff.
It’s perpetually unpopular with the youth. Or in general lately.
