coughs up drink
I’m surprised to see this one still going. Not that it’s a bad thing. Just surprising. Lots of interesting posts.
The reason I responded to “Why don’t you PvP?” is because I am one who does not PvP. I feel the question was directed at people exactly like me who do not PvP. Like you are saying I should not be.
The biggest problem I see with PvP is there really are no brackets where people are formally kept apart. Lets compare it to a real sport like you say and use your concept of sportsmanship.
We have NBA type players. If you are not being paid, you are not this level. You are not on the forums.
We have College players. If you are not being paid, you are not on this level. You are not on the forums.
We have high school players. These guys are really good compared to most. They have great score and are proud of what they do.
We have middle school players. These guys are pretty good, but they need more time to develop into high school player
We have the little leagues. 6-8, 8-10, 10-12 (maybe) These guys are learning but probably have a little skill but no team play knowledge.
The college and NBA players don’t drop down to play the high schoolers because they have no reason to. WoW PvP becomes a problem when high school players are playing or against little league and middle school players. There is no competition.
SOME of the high schoolers act like it against the little leagues. They have no sportsmanship. They run up the score. They trash talk. ITs like a 6’ high school basketball player slapping around a 4’ little kid on a basketball court and acting like he did something worthwhile. If that happened in real life, people would slap the 6’ around for being a jerk and having no sportsmanship. In WoW, SOME people say its ok because the other guy is a loser or incompetent or insert whatever negative adjective in you like.
One of the reasons I HATE PvP in WoW is because of the lack of sportsmanship I have experienced since 2004. When my kids went through the ranks of real life sports they learned to respect their opponents. Next year they may be on the same team. I can tell many PvPers never learned these same lessons.
I’m totally on board with you there and I savour every nice chat I can have with someone I’ve defeated or who has defeated me. But for every one of those, there’s about a dozen people who are far too emotionally invested in the win and it shows in their emotes and how they react to being ganked. It’s an unfortunate reality which could be fixed, unironically, by seperating up the player base by rated skill (sort of already happens in SOME places) and more importantly ilvl.
Though, none of that matters much in world pvp per se, beyond how you conduct yourself imo. World pvp is more like…“danger mode on” than an actual sporting event. Sporting events can happen in it, but it’s much more akin to “I like to live dangerously” than anything else. I love it sometimes, but, I’m glad that when I don’t need it around I can just switch it off.
I want to
But im so far behind in gear I feel I’ll never catch up
Battlegounds won’t teach me anything about PvP
And I feel like I’d just drag the team down in Arena
I do really want to take PvP seriously
Maybe next xPac
I just don’t like mmo pvp it has as always annoyed me.
Now if pvp worked like dark soul were you had to know something about how the weapon works I’d love it…
But mmo pvp is always lame
Going off on a tangent here, and maybe I am crazy for seeing it like this, but this is the issue I have with the Horde. I saw the OG Horde (Orcs, Tauren, Darkspear Trolls) as a bunch of jocks whose sport was war. They fought and killed but they respected their opponents. They wanted to win a fight against competent opponents to prove it was a valuable win, they didn’t want to slap around a bunch of mommies and their babies - there is no “Honor” in that. In the end, even if it was about war & killing, OG Horde “Honor” is about sportsmanship.
Garrosh’s Horde went a little back to that but changed into more of the “I just want everything dead”.
I don’t mind the sentiment myself, personally(In terms of storytelling, that is), but, the writers should really stick to one consequentially. “The Horde” seems to be an entirely different faction every story arc almost. It’s kinda schizo.
this. my resto druid lost poly immunity due to pvp complaints and it’s still not restored.
I generally agree with your criticism, but I’m not sure it was designed specifically this way. In BFA Season 1, it was possible to keep up on gear by capping Conquest each week.
Unfortunately other gearing mechanisms diluted the value of Conquest gear, and long periods between seasons meant that the lack of Mythic level Conquest gear in the progression meant that raiders and M+ fans got better gear. This also exacerbated the gear differential between the factions.
Why don’t do you PvP?
because I took an arrow to the knee.
For me, it just feels hard to get into beyond random battlegrounds.
It’s how they ruined gearing, but in general I think PvP is far superior to PvE even beyond the tedium of running scripted encounters with a set rotation. When I started, the PvE community seemed pretty hostile. I wasn’t good enough to even get invites, I was lucky if I could run the weekly dungeon.People in PvP always seemed happy to have me even when I was undergeared and inexperienced. I recognize that culture has changed but I predicted it when they introduced rated BGs. I don’t know if it was the cause but I sure felt when they announced it that it would have a very negative effect.
Even now I interact far more with people in BGs than in instances. I say hi at the start of a BGs several people actually say hi back. I ask how we want to approach the BG and there are usually 2-3 others who will discuss our strategy. As a BG healer I have people who /cheer me when I save them, if we win probably half the team will tell everyone we we did good (usually gg but sometimes they’ll call out good heals or something similar).
Nah its perfect as it is. Based on your answer you shouldnt be giving any advice on gameplay. I think thats best for everyone.
You have a bad opinion. I like that blizzard makes people pve. Pve is a good part of this game. And its better that way than being confused on how to give people pvp gear. Much better the current system.
Keep making it so we can pve and get great gear in Pvp blizzard! Don’t change! Finally a system that works. Dont listen to the people telling you to change. They never know what theyre talking about.
And also BFA is great. Don’t listen to the people saying otherwise. These people again dont know what theyre talking about. And want to make the game not fun for everyone.
because i dont like pvp its that simple. i like pve the most and im a pve player. PvP isnt my cup of tea but i do it to get the things i need then i dip out.
You have a bad opinion
Oof get off your high horse bud. everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No such thing as a bad one.
MMO pvp is just garbage
Less issues when you’re minding your own business if you’re talking World pvp. Im cool with bgs tho
How is speaking facts, and pvpers treating each other bad the same?
Because I haven’t got three r3 twisted apendage.
