Paying $65 CAD is not enough to play the new expansion, also need to pay for the subscription.
As a new player having to commit to paying for both right off the bat seems like such a turn off.
Im really surprised buying the expansion doesn’t give you some subscription to actually play it.

You do get subscription time for paying for the expansion. You’ve got to get the one that gives you the actual launch date which is the 22nd. Games just cost a lot more now, but if you’re not willing to pay the launch day price, you can get it on sale a few days later – but it doesn’t come with subscription time.

They do, you dont need to buy the game anymore to actually play it, just have an active subscription to access content above level 20. So you can try the base game without having to pay for all of the like 8-9 xpacs and during the prepatch you will normally have full access upto current content.
Then if you want to play TWW content you buy the game and there are several tier options with different rewards/benefits.
I’m down for some feisty fish sticks.
Tbf that is kind of convoluted for someone who doesn’t know anything about the game.
And the website makes it even less clear.
I think I may pass on the new expansion. Good luck to all in the future.
I mean not really, if you look at the overview for the game its pretty straight forward stated, ‘play for free upto level 20’ and then a big simple table of what you get at each tier of the licence so 3 options, free account, paid for subscription and then gives you the option to upgrade to TWW option. Its fairly simply outlined unless you just dont bother to look at the information when its spoon fed to you.
I mean yea really.
Open a private browser. Type in “play world of Warcraft”
First hit is a TWW preorder.
Person buy that’s thinking thats what’s needed to get them into the game. It’s SEO streamlined directly to the preorder instead of the free trial.

except tww purchase page literally has a big ole table stating all that information and its in the system requirements right under where you click to purchase
Sure and everyone reads that

I don’t think anyone is buying WoW in the year of our lord 2024 and doesn’t know that it requires a subscription.
This isn’t really a “stumble across it and pick it up out of curiosity” game at this point.

I’m not saying that.
I’m saying that the free trial pipeline isn’t front and center. So why would we expect a noob to see that when TWW is in their face?
I mean, thats not a Blizzard issue, thats on the person buying. They can’t teleport to you and whisper the details into your ear. Gotta take some personal responsibility

I dunno, I did this:
And the first result was “getting started on your free trial”.

New players probably should do the free trial before buying the subscription, and then level to 70 and play around with dungeons or raids or endgame pvp before buying the new expansion. If anything, the prepatch is the best time since you get the raids and m+ dungeons and endgame pvp with the subscription right now
You get 30 days of gametime for purchasing the epic edition.
A subscription is a re-occurring payment, completely different.

Ok well y’all are more invested in this than I am and I guess think the average person is way smarter than I do.
So you win.
Which is why the epic addiction is actually a pretty good deal, and not that much more.
