I see him post about 5-10 times a day on Twitter. Seems kind of weird the lead CM never posts on the forums and interacts with the community.
For very important reasons we are not allowed to discuss.
Because it’s a useless position and the last one to post around here was obnoxious.
Idk, i hope we didnt scare them off…
like i miss the blue posters but they are super formal… like they cant really crack jokes because its there job you know?
I believe Data deactivated him after he took over a rogue band of Borg.
I could be wrong. It’s been awhile since I watched TNG.
Five years ago, he was tasked with developing a plan to improve communication on the forums. He is still working on that plan and doesn’t have time to post here.
Have you read the forums?
How is someone supposed to respond or interact in a professional manner when we’re all behaving like the digital version of Lord of the Flies.
If we want a community manager around we have to behave like, you know, a community.
If we read between the lines, the topic title would be “Why doesn’t Lore post (so we can be mean to him)?”
Seems pretty straight forward.
Way to make something out of nothing i guess. Its a simple question. You can take your tin foil hat off now.
For the most part CM is a useless position. They don’t really spend time with the community or interact with them outside of huge problems, or being told by the company to help put fires out. Fluff pieces and the likes. It’s not like the old days where GMs would be in game at all times and they did things like hold events or interact with players. I miss those days.
At the same time it could boil down to how the internet is in general. Chill as you and I might be about discussing various things other people just want to REEE. Then there’s the trolls. They probably avoid it to be on the safe side.
lol I will tell why OP and it really is a great story.
Last year he said something nasty about the wow playerbase on his ‘private’ social media account. It was something along the lines of calling people ‘dickbags’ rofl.
I think it was also stuff about him put himself first over anonymous rantings. I honestly think someone from wow did it on purpose to get that kind of reaction from him. We have to learn to be very careful what we say on social media, we might want to try and keep everything on our social media separate but in reality everything is connected for better or worse.
Ok Karen. Your topic is the equivalent of asking to speak to the manager.
I think the CMs have a pretty important job. We just don’t get to see it. They’re the buffer that actually has to visit this cesspool of a forum so that the devs don’t have to and they filter through the BS opinions and recommendations trying to figure out what’s a real complaint and what’s just entitled crying to take to the devs. I have friends that work for EA and they absolutely hate their jobs because of the customers. They love the actual work but just taking one look at any forum is disheartening. I’m assuming CMs exist so that the devs don’t have to do that.
That being said, I think there are much better ways to get community feedback that doesn’t come from a vocal minority.
It’s still a useless position. You could have some anonymous people doing the same exact thing without a title, and get the same results. A Community Manager should be seen and talked to. That’s what the title implies and it’s what people expect when the position exists. You might not like what is being said, or agree with it, but that’s part of the job and part of being human. So long as you’re professional about it, don’t get on their level when it’s blind screeching, you’re doing your job. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a CM just talk to people. In a couple games in the past I’ve seen it. Threads that aren’t related to the game itself, people having fun. It was nice to see.
The sad part? He wasn’t wrong, at least where the forums are concerned.
I used to help run a forum where mods and certain solid contributers had hidden sections where they could discuss things meaningfully without the rabble. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that existed here and Lore is focusing on a select section of the community that is able to give constructive criticism rather than whiny rants.
Is that a WoW thing though or is it just MMOs in general now? Do any MMOs have GMs running events?
I miss them too. Back when I played UO GMs would play Lord British and Lord Blackthorne and gather armies of players to fight each other. I’m not sure why the genre has moved away from that model and I haven’t really played any other MMOs in the past half decade but I’m assuming no one does stuff like that anymore.
Yeah Trust Level 3 people get their own little forum and man I miss that place, my fav MVP’s are all there…posting away…but because I said something in general forum as a joke I lost Level 3 status and can’t get it back
Back in the old days of WoW GMs were always around. There was always at least one, and usually when there’s only one they’re present to help solve issues like people being stuck. I think it stopped happening right around the time when the internet went from being a small percentage bad to downright nasty pretty much overnight. Blizzard probably nixed the idea to save them troubles down the road when a GM snaps. There’s only so much shoving a person can take. I never blamed the company or GMs for the disappearance. I blamed the people.
Imagine being logged in to do your job and help people in the game. Or maybe you’re there to interact with them so some level of the company is seen in game and heard, a sense of caring. Yet you have to surf through a monstrous sea of insults and whining to try and find the whispers of people who are stuck or are being civil. If you tried it right now you’d be flooded with messages about you-know-where because people don’t think outside the box. They would see a GM and attack it blindly instead of remembering that the GM has jack all to do with the situation. That’s probably the biggest, if not the only, reason GMs stopped being a thing.
Well said. Personally, I find the twitter communication to be excellent. I use the forums to play basically. Whenever a blue does post in here, they inevitably get trolled and asked to go off the topic they are addressing. A lot of self perceived problems, are in fact not problems at all. They don’t design the game to suit the needs of a handful, they do it for the masses.
You talking about GMs posting on the forums? Because that never happened. GMs work invisible within the game, that’s it. You must be talking about CMs or Developers.
