Why doesn't blook dk have some form of initial mitigation?

Ive got a blood / frost alt that I play… around 200 ilevel. I usually just play blood for quests and torghast, but tried a mythic 0 the other day. Man oh boy did I feel squishy. After the initial pull I was using my CDs and marrowrend like mad trying to gain some bone shields. Why doesn’t blood have an ability on maybe a 1 min cd that gives you 5-6 stacks of bone shield from the get go? So then you could use it before a trash pack or boss and not be hoping like mad the healer can keep you up until you get some mitigation going?

It’s probably your build or rotation.

Without seeing your DK, I couldn’t tell you WHAT you did wrong, but you obviously did SOMETHING wrong.

Just use Dancing Rune Weapon. One marrowrend, blood boil twice for aggro.

That’s what Rune Tap is for, no?
It’s even off the GCD for a reason

I mean it would be nice to start the combat with some Bone Shield stacks without the reliance of Marrowrend…

… but even then. Blood Dks have plenty of mitigation in general. Rune Tap and IBF.

At 200 ilvl on a 0 though… you shouldn’t be feeling THAT squishy unless you’re doing something wrong.

I’m at 177 and I don’t have any troubles with a 0.

I said it would be nice.

I am not saying it should be mandatory. :stuck_out_tongue:

Eh, charge in, hit Marrow 2 or 3 times, then start the rest of your rotation.

Bone shields are easy enough to gain quickly. And if you’re in a Mythic moving from pack to pack you’re usually not losing them entirely between packs.

But muh GCDs! D’:

blood isnt squishy at all, at 210 and i can solo 0’s, i can do higher but lack the dps to actually kill bosses in keys, or its not worth it. I suspect the problem is that mechanics are actually the issue, and that kills everyone, not just blood dks

Dks are pretty tanky, you just have poor gear and are probably not very experienced with the class. A good blood dk is really really strong right now

Can grip a single target and get boneshield up immediately before the rest of mob comes. Other suggestions in this thread will work too, especially Rune Tap.

I’m probably doing it wrong, but for single target, I’ll dark command, rune tap, then combo marrow with blood tap to quickly get bone shield up to a decent range.

If you’re in an m+ situation, and you’re venthyr with the General soulbind, you can DoS into a pack or boss with an instant shield up, and then do any number of things to get bone shield rolling.

One of the upcoming legendaries will give you an immediate burst of 5 bs as well.

Also if you aren’t focusing on versatility for your tank’s gear, you’re going to absolutely feel that difference in how hard you’re getting hit.

If necrolord, precast fleshcraft.
Get 1 marrow out once in melee range then blood boil to get your dots and threat. Use a cd like dancing rune weapon if you have to.

Pulling with no runic power and boneshield sucks. Make sure at the end of dying packs to refresh bone shields. Dont waste death and decay on a dying pack either

Because they’re going to give you this ability in the form of a legendary tune next patch.

I do believe DRW is kinda the reason for this though. IBF, and rune tap as well. Oh and fleshcraft too if you’re necro.

Dancing Rune Weapon will make your first Marrowrend give you 6 stacks.
As for the initial pull - I find opening with a Runetap to be a nice warm up.

use runetap right before you are getting hit on first pull, maintain boneshield for rest of run and never touch runetap again
