Why doesn't Blizz disclose their # of active subs?

If you’ve ever followed a shareholder meeting or earnings call of some sort, you’ll notice companies only release the data such that it makes them look good. They won’t boast about WoW’s active sub count because it’s still a downward trend, but they did boast about their “33 million active users” across their games, because that sounds a lot better. They’ll also boast that WoW Classic drove their biggest quarterly subscription increase in history, because again, that sounds better.

They don’t disclose the exact number of active subs because that does not sound better.

Essentially, subs matter when it makes them look good, but they don’t when it makes them look bad.
