No, that was Dota.
Wasn’t really a mod per se either, was just a custom game mode.

Ok not exactly ad a mod but very early wow was built on the warcraft3 engine that is a fact.
Definitely not trolling! Retail WoW has so much potential for bolder, more innovative designs. WoW has proven its staying power over the years, so why not push the boundaries with its visual style? I still wear the T5 Deathmantle set on my Rogue because I love the design.
Not judging the art style, but the armor creative direction, because both games are on different engines, so they can’t really compare:
The problem with WoW is that the designers usually go for “too busy, too big, too many elements”.
Plate wearers probably have the right to it, but why everybody else needs to look like a plated unit with huge shoulders? I’ve never thought of a Monk fighting in most of the getups they have. In the case of ‘mages’, still resembles full plate but with a skirt.
Speaking about them, one of the things that is holding back WoW’s armor designs is that tube skirt. Yes, we have come a long way with 3D elements. But the damn skirt is still there underneath with all its textured (un)glory. It just feels bad to see the new Ethereal themed robes and look at the textures painted on skirts that clearly should’ve been 3D elements. Don’t even get me started on the texture warping that happens on most non-human male races.
I don’t expect them to overhaul the skirt, but they could retire it from new designs at some point.
And you have to pay $20 a piece for them. Almost as if there is an incentive to make the cosmetics appear enticing.
WoW has always been designed to run on a toaster. Diablo 4 less so. Textures and resource management are also much more important in MMOs. Diablo has online play, but not to the same degree that WoW or other MMOs do.
My bear in Diablo doesn’t wear armor, my bear in Warcraft does. And they make that armor look good c:
Because WoW is using an engine from 1999
You’re right I was just playing Diablo 1 on my old PS1, and damn that shiny armor everywhere. Why isn’t WoW as shiny and detailed as Diablo 1? Damn Blizzard ![]()
I mean, if you like Kiss, Gwar, and Slipknot, maybe D4’s armor looks good? Or maybe I just have no taste. But I can pass on D4’s aesthetic completely.
That’s the law firm I use.
Most of the cosmetics in D4 come straight from the cash shop. I hope they’d look good.
almost like one is a 20 year old cartoon.
Really, Diablo 4 is that old?
Damn, here was me playing D3 thinking that was a bit over a decade old.
God, wish there was a WoW game on the engine D4 is using.
They absolutely can deliver stunning sets with what they have.
Just look at the Blood Troll amor set. Granted, it reveals a lot of skin, but that’s an iconic silhouette that you can’t find anywhere else.
Tauren, Forsaken and Void Elf heritage sets are up there too.
The out-world sets from the Dream patch is a druid’s dream in every armor type.
Just to name a few.
What all of those sets have in common? They rely very little on textures to simulate parts, because those are the 3D elements already. You don’t see fake dangly straps or rags on the Forsaken set, nor you see fake texture feathers on the Tauren one.
At this point, it feels like they use better 3D modellers just for few specific items, because I can’t believe the same person who made the Valdrakken civilian vests (which are ALL fake 3D texture) is the same who did the Earthen civilian items, usable by the Dwarf races.
Because WoW’s objective is to run on an actual potato while D4 can bring even 2022’s higher-end GPUs to their knees?
This is so laughably incorrect it could only have been made by the D4 marketing team.
Are we doing Sponsored Content posts now?
painted on armor ftw

In defense of OP the gear is pretty ugly on WoW. They really ought to spend some time revamping the game’s engine. I’d take a very barebones expansion after The Last Titan solely focused on beefing up the game’s engine.
