i don’t feel any pressure to do my chores to accumulate player power, and i don’t feel psychologically manipulated to continue doing them. (oh i just spent a whole week doing dailies, but if i stop now i’ll fall behind!)

if the game respected my time, the game wouldn’t end my sub if I haven’t logged in half a year or have me lose my house in the same situation

This is a completely player-made problem. If you stop doing your dailies, you won’t ‘fall behind’. There is nothing to fall behind on.
So far, I don’t feel like FF14 “respects my time” any more than WoW does. In WoW, I can level to endgame in a few days and start gearing my character. In FF14, I’m still painfully slogging through the horribly boring story quests that I’m required to do unless I want to buy their boost on the cash shop.
And if I want to play an alt, I have to do it all over again, no shortcuts. “But you can be every class on your one character”… that’s great, but as a RPer, I like to play different characters and alts.
