Why can’t I block XP gains before I reach 80? It makes no sense! I just want to stay below 80 and finish questing in the region before I get to the 80 level areas.

In the past you could xp lock into the current expansion which was how Freehold xp farming twinks became a thing. This is why twinks now nerf xp massively for their group members while you play with them. I guess they thought the xp nerf wasn’t enough and wanted to destroy current expansion twinking fully. 
Cuz 70 is the new expansion,
They made this change to punish people that didn’t buy “early access” by letting extremely geared level 70 characters power level people to 80 in dungeons in 4-5 hours, only to make this change a the day after us poor people got allowed to join tww.
Now that the change to massively nerf exp from being grouped with a exp locked character is in game this change could be removed but that would require like 15 hours of dev time to undo and blizzard doesn’t think its worth paying for that dev time until enough people complain about it.
