Why Does The Void Hate Life?

Some hot robot lady in the Shadowlads said:

“Mortis. Lumen. Ordus. Rhythm and structure. (…) Vitae. Umbra. Tumult. Improvisation and possibility.”

So it seems to me like the Void should vibe with Chaos and Life, since they all are on “Team Possibility”.

But the Locus-Walker said this about the Void:

Locus-Walker says: You see the Void as an enemy. It sees you the same way. For now.
Locus-Walker says: Its very nature is hostile to order. Life, Sanity.

So it’s obvious why the Void doesn’t like Order, but it should like Life, shouldn’t it?

My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but I don’t remember that the void hates life. It hungers to consume all. And when living beings stand in its way of that purpose, then it sees life as an enemy. Ironically, life and void are very much the same. Life consumes huge swaths of energy, be it food water, sunlight, material resources etc. to keep it’s own existence going.

Cause it’s got electrolytes.

Ooo, do we have the names for our six Zereths already? That’s neat.

Ol’ Locus-Walker could also be lying. I don’t trust people without faces.

What you call sanity is just a prison in your mind that stops you from seeing that you’re just tiny little cogs in a giant absurd machine!

Poor Slenderman lol

I hate life as well, but the Void likes to make a big deal about it.

I prefer the Robot Chicken version that is addicted to Five Guys.

Life wants to continue to keep things in order so that it can provide future growth of resources for its hunger to consume. Void want to consume all things without regard; believing that absolute destruction/entropy will finally end its eternal hunger and give it peace from its only driving motivation. Life wants to keep existing vs. void wants to end the reason for its existence. Both exist to consume.

I think my recollections of this explanation might be from some other fantasy lore though. I can’t seem to knock the noodle cobwebs loose and recall where I read this.

IMO, Life is treated as cyclical and capable of continual regrowth (in this setting) while the Void represents entropy, that everything will come to an eventual halt in nothingness.

Is void against life? It was a big catalyst for the “Curse” of Flesh which is one of the biggest life creation events in Azeroth’s history. It started to combat Order with the presence of life they could not just command.

Right. The void wants nothingness so its hunger finally ends. Life wants replenishment so it can continue eating. Life revels in its hunger.

Man. This thought chain is potent for a Monday.

Is that an actual quote? It’s interesting.

Either way, I don’t think it means that the Void hates life, I think it means that it’s just the natural way of things. It’s the WoW universe equivalent of a fundamental constant.

I don’t think the Void even perceives a potential end to its “hunger”. It’s just a state that it exists in. You hunger, so you consume. Doesn’t matter how much hunger there is or how much there is to consume. Just keep going until you can’t.

That’s interesting. You might be right. It seemed to me hunger was something the void wanted relief from. The only way to accomplish the relief was to ensure nothing existed, and thus it would no longer be bound to its eternal drive. But, it’s very likely I just read that in my own interpretation of the text. The void might very well just exist as a hungering state, without any recognition of an end.

The living keeps staring into the void. it’s annoying

Pretty much this, the void exists to be the concept of entropy made manifest.

Life is disgusting, and so much work. Nobody wins, it’s a temporary little exercise in contrast torture.

Imagine if you will, a person who is born without sight, hearing, taste or smell. their only way of expieriencing the world is through direct tactile interaction with physical objects and the stimuli that that triggers in the mind.

Now imagine that that individual suddenly gains all their other senses unlocked in rapid succession; eyes, ears nose and tongue are all feeding new and alien stimuli directly to the brain and shattering their understanding of reality.

This is what the void does.

Void’s corruption (Curse of Flesh) of the Titan’s constructs/robots is what created life in the first place.

I don’t think the void hates us (we, the living), seeing as it’s partially responsible for our own creation.

I just think, like with the Light, it’s just an all-consuming force that doesn’t really “hate” anything- just wants to use everything towards its own ends.

The ocean doesn’t hate the land, but will always try to erode and overtake it.
