wish it would continue on past a year and keep releasing new patches with new content. Seems pretty lame that it just ends at the end of the year.

The point of seasons are to be experimental testing grounds to try out things that would be too much for standard Era servers. If a season is deemed to be an outstanding success then maybe weāll see that seasonās content return in some form, but first and foremost seasonal servers are NOT meant to be another version of the game in the same way Era, Classic, and Retail are

I think they said SoD is a testing group for a proper classic +. With how popular SoD has been I would think when it ends they will either make a new season or we will get classic +.

SoD isnāt going away by the end of it.
Once this āSeason of Discoveryā ends weāre probably getting āSeason of _________ā but itās the āsameā thing, just with even more changes.
I figured theyād shovel our characters off to Era once itās done, but nah, they said SoD servers are gonna be a regular, āpermanentā thing, and I indeed think thatās their angle of Classic+
Basically, theyāre easing us into Classic+ and eventually itāll be a full-fledged mode of itās own, replacing SoD.
Going to need a source for that.
Last I heard they said there would be a home for our characters after SoD, but they werenāt sure where. Weād be too OP in Era with all of the rune powers and new gear. That could be permanent SoD servers, but they havenāt said for sure.
They did say that our characters will persist and not be deleted. So whatever comes after SoD (and something is 100% coming after SoD) your characters will carry over.

The devs have not released any information if this version of SoD will continue beyond Classic and i highly doubt it will as SoD is meant to be a trial version for devs to test new ideas and whatnot. Having played 2019 Classic and SoD, im content if SoD ends after Classic content.
Wheres the source on this? Or are people just assuming because of youtubers/streamers said so.
Its based off the roadmap blizz released. Of course they havent officially confirmed if they plan to continue SoD into any content pass classic, but SoD realms were never meant to extend for years on end.

I canāt find it, but it was one of the dev videos I watched, it sounded like they wanted SoD to continue even after the āexperimentā is done.
Yeah I donāt know their exact words, but something like this.
It was hinted that weāre not ājust going back to Eraā when itās all said and done.
Part of me hopes they do a SoD TBC or a SoD Wrath, lol. I want remixes of those dungeons/raids.

Idk but honest opinion is that there are too many versions at the moment. If they push SoD into TBC content and then come out with Classic+, itll just be a bit too messy lol.
I just donāt like how weāre stuck in Classic, when TBC and Wrath were some of my favorite expansions/places to visit.
I understand that Classic will always be the most popular of the three, though, so make sense to use it as a baseline for Classic+
I just feel like Classic+ could theoretically also extend into those expansions once people are ādoneā with the first iteration, but yeah you provide a valid point about splintering the playerbase further.
Iām fine with seasonal servers ending so long as they are quickly replaced with a new season. But Iām also one of those people that genuinely enjoys the journey. Iād be content with a regular Classic server that reset every 18 months.

What about new seasons, such as, season of war? Each new faction would get new race/class combinations to flesh out the factions. Kept in classic setting.

Versus
Humans(WC3 includes dwarfs and gnomes)
Versus
Undead(Worgs?)
Versus
Orc/Troll/Tauren
They never said anything like that.
Based on their roadmap (if Iām reading it correctly) we reach level 60 by summer. Having only 4-5 months to do all the raids from MC, Ony, BWL, AQ20/ZG, AQ40 to Naxx seems a bit too short I think, might go into 2025 a little, weāll see? Doesnāt show anything past autumn period to confirm end of year plan. And we still need to see what other raids they might introduce like kara crypts, etc in the schedule. If they really plan on having SoD end by the year mark then I hope they plan on increasing the number of loot drops in raid (especially weapons) so people can actually feel like theyāre getting geared 
It sounds like Tauren paladins and Drawf shamans could be considered for another season but not this current one due to the amount of work it takes, so things like this could cause others to want this season to have a good running but not last too long so they can try other things after like this (in their beloved classic setting). But it does feel pretty bad sometimes for some putting in a lot of hours on current game and then not have too long to enjoy it before, āhey, you get to start at level 1 again, and grind reps, pvp, professions, gold again, fun!ā so there will be people that burn out and not plan on staying for new season release.
Someone got the gist of it from an interview a while back.
Iām sorry, but all of our characters are going to the bad place at the end of the season. Not one of you deserves heaven, especially you hunters and your pet shenanigans. Your pets will go to heaven though, because they are innocent and all good bois.
