Why does the quest log have a limit?

I can see that it would eventually become unwieldly for some…but we have to manage it either way so…why does it still have a limit? What possible reason is there for that at this point? I am pretty sure you have to have some form of data point either way on whether it was completed so…why?

it’s so players don’t feel overwhelmed coming back after a break and seeing 150 quests.

Not a good excuse now tbh. Quests are now divided by zone and Blizz now clears your quest log for you.

blizz doesn’t want us having a limitless quest log

Well yeah…derp. WHY?

Probably some more mundane reason, like database space not being infinite, or cheap.

I thought of that but…think every character has to track done or not done anyway…so just doing all the quests would take the same space I believe.

they decided they didn’t like that idea

Don’t forget quest state… active quests have progress, item states, etc etc.

Must be a speed of light thing.

Why do you want to stack and waste space and trying to force blizzard to expand your log when it’s already been expanded multiple times.

Because storing data costs money.

Originally it was to stop players from hoarding completed quests to get a huge chunk of experience at the start of each expansion. Players would complete a heap of quests but wait to hand them in until after the level cap was increased to gain a lot of xp. Blizzard didn’t like that and put a limit on the quests.

Not sure why it has a limit besides possibly a data thing. I think they could have the current limit by default but bury a “turn off quest limit” option in the interface menu for the people that want to be overwhelmed.

lol. I wanted more quest slots but the way you turn in ONE quest and end up with 4 in response, I think its big enough.
That or just give me ALL of the quests in my log and I’ll go do them at leisure.

To keep us honest.

I would love more quest space, but what annoys me more, unless I completely don’t see it, is the count of how many quests I have and what the cap is. With the default UI.

it was when the game wass still new and the servers couldn’t cache accepted quests like it can now, but it is 2024 and it’s time to increase that limit from 25 active quests to 100

The only limit should be on the number of active quests you are tracking. That should be determined by expansion you are in. Older quests from DF shouldn’t affect the number of quests you can acquire in the current expansion

exploring the world and meeting questgivers is an important part of MMORPGs. are you sure you’re in the right genre?
