Why does the game run on windows OS and not mac OS?

I pulled out my late 2009 macbook expecting to be able to run classic wow on the go no problems as I’ve ran later versions of the game without issues but sadly come across the message “Your 3D accelerator card is not supported by World of Warcraft. Please install a 3D accelerator card with Dual -TMU support.”

I tried running Windows 7 OS on the mac and was able to run the game no issues. unfortunately I need that OS on another computer and have the mac running High sierra OS.

anything to give me a better understanding on this would be much appreciated. I know the computer is trash lol. I’d like something to play on the go lugging around a desktop isn’t really ideal for me and I’ve seen the game work on the computer.

My Macbook Air runs Classic just fine.

The issue is that Apple has moved from openGL to Metal, and so now older macs that can’t run Metal aren’t supported. As Windows uses DirectX, it’s not affected on the older macs.

So, basically, you need a mac new enough to use Metal (which means the macs that can run Mohave) or to run Windows.

Thank you for clearing that up! looks like ill go the cheaper route and order another version of windows.

I run it on a mac mini, with “classic” video settings, works very well as a software render, better than retail.
