Why does the game always freeze on login?

Never used to happen till DF came out. Anyone else got this issue?

Yeah, and opening the guild chat freezes the game for a few seconds now too.

Lately mine has been freezing for just a couple seconds at login screen and then again for a couple more when a char actually logs in.

Anyone else here freezing randomly in-game?

Yeah, me, for a few secs then all the sounds happen together and im back to normal

I’ve just noticed that login is slower than it used to be, but I attributed that to my computer coming up on 7 years old at this point.

Also, the launcher sometimes just won’t launch WoW, and I have to go rummage for the .exe file.

Also, launchers, and the people who make them, need to be pushed off a cliff.

Really fun during a m+ or raid >.<

Addons are probably causing some of that freezing, especially if you’re logging online in a capital city.

I’ve got one system that is all the newest stuff, current year top shelf everything. Right next to it I got a tired old mid range system from 2017. They both run WoW identically, warts and all. Don’t get very far in WoW with extra hardware.

I notice the freezing too. The game freezes up solid for a second or two at the first frame of the character screen, and then again on the first frame of loading in. It’s not hardware dependent. Doesn’t matter if you’re running PCI-E gen 4 SSD or SATA 3 SSD. Doesn’t care if you got 64gb DDR5 or 16gb DDR4. Don’t care if you have Zen 1 or Zen 4. It just do it.

I have noticed that recently I will get a second or two pause after I log in, not sure it is causing it but I wasn’t getting this before. Not a huge issue but it is there.

I noticed my character doing an animation (left arm extended outward) on login that corresponds with the freezing.

I hear ya. I don’t play cutting edge games, so I’ve felt no need to replace this old HP, it’s served me well. I’ll start to see some framerate dip when there’s a massive number of people doing a massive number of things in a small area (e.g. epic BGs on occasion, soup event, etc). But beyond that, it’s more than adequate.

It happens to me and i dont have a single addon

no freezing per say but i enter the world so quick half the things dont show up yet. then it pops in a second later

on an m.2 lol

I just took for granted I had an add-on that was causing the hang, but even with them disabled it does it. So I’ve been ignoring it basically.
Not sure if it’s something delayed from the server side or what, but it seems to be the moment that buffs are applied to the character when logging in. In my experience at least.
Fwiw I’m running wow on a dedicated SSD, i7 11700k, 32g ram, and gtx3090 at 1440p so its more than likely not a pc issue. This rig is way overkill for something like wow. But I use it for programming and video editing gigs.
I figure it’s something software or server side, especially as wide spread as it appears to be.

It’s been said but I am going to say it again because I love going back and rereading my own posts.

It may be an add on.
Some damage meters and other addons that retain data can begin to cause problems when they get overloaded with said data.

:raising_hand_woman: I have an updated machine and this is very annoying. My other games run fine.

Oh it’s not just me then? Yes, it’s only a short freeze, but it’s annoying!

Just chiming in as I was hunting for this issue, but yeah, like others above, at least since the last few weeks I’ve noticed a solid 1-2 second freeze when loading in on the character screen and then another when logging into a character regardless of their zone, though this is all only on the initial character, swapping characters there’s none whatsoever.
