Why does the class wheel keep turning?

Every expansion, Blizzard seems to redefine the classes - taking and adding abilities etc. Why do this? It seem like a waste of resources to me.

What I would do is find a nice sweet spot in which the majority of the people really like their classes, do my best to balance those classes, then leave it be and focus my resources into generating new content or possibly making new classes. If there is a class that people are really not liking or is underperforming, then they can consider reworking that one class.

I don’t get by Blizzard needs to constantly muck around with class abilities. Does anyone here actually enjoy constantly having to relearn their class every expansion?

A little bit yeah. It’s better than another two years of the same exact rotation. I was doing before.

New ideas, varied play styles, etc… All come with the territory of making a new expansion. But I know I’m not the popular opinion here.

Because the game changes. Folks want the game to change. I don’t really have an opinion as to when my Warlock played better or worse. I sorta miss the artifact swirly circle things that I could summon, but that’s really the only big difference between now and Legion.

I’m certainly glad I’m not playing the same Warlock I had 15 years ago.

Oh ok, makes sense. I guess I am just the type of person who does not like change. I am frustrated with the new changes to warlocks and wish they had been left in one of their previous states (really any expansion state prior to BFA)

That is one of my few complaints about the game.

We have to essentially relearn our classes each time they release a new expansion.

So people get bored because classes never change, and then quit the game.

Good job at suggesting something that would drive people off.

I am all for the “core aspect” of a class remaining true. A ele sham relying on lava burst, for example. But changing up the classes, within reason, keeps things fresh expansion to expansion.

Class design is one of reasons i left, none of classes feel fun this expansion and we lost more than we gained. I understand change is always needed, but usually you go forward in changes not backwards.

Well, I do not having much experience playing other MMOs like FF14 and ESO. I did play SWTOR for a little while.

Can anyone whom does play these games tell me: Do they constantly change classes with every expansion like WOW does?

Both ESO and FF14 are doing really well. So if they don’t do constant ability changing like Blizzard does, maybe that will be evidence that we don’t necessarily need to constantly change classes to keep people interested.

Those games are fairly new and often handle expansions differently than WoW.

They also handle classes differently.

Keep in mind, the version of your class that you like was the result of changes to said class.

Shadowbolt spamming warlock may have been super strong in BC, but fun and interactive it was not.

Can you be more specific? They are about 5-6 years old at this point (about 2 wow expansions worth of changes). Have they majorly overhauled their classes during this time period?

Sorry, I wish I knew more about those games.

Honestly, learning a new rotation and seeing a new take on class fantasy is refreshing, even if certain aspects are hit or miss.

My warrior has played the same for 8 months. I’m bored off my butt. Bring back raid sets that change up rotations, or at least re-do some talents every now and again.

Tbh there is nothing wrong with blizzard doing this. It’s just they need to do better with the talent tree & stop putting moves that make a huge difference in damage inside the talent tree. Thats just how I see it though. But BFA… Class design this whole xpac was just done VERY poorly…

“With the pruning, we have no buttons to push”

“Its too hard to relearn your class every expansion”

Not saying it is hard - just not like them changing the classes and making them less fun. I am not having any fun on my warlock this expansion compared to previous expansion so I just wish they would leave my warlock class alone.

Would you have had fun if they had NOT changed your Warlock 5 years ago?

Honestly I would have - that would have placed it at the end of MoP early Wod. Mop had a great rotation for warlocks. We had so many abilities that were not yet pruned and that class was really fun to play. I miss the old warlock. So the answer is ‘yes’.

Before THAT?

Yup, I played since late vanilla. I miss old warlock rotations and abilities :frowning:

I am looking forward to classic. But it is a shame that they have taken away so many abilities in retail.

My experience has been it pushes me out of a class/spec I enjoyed (but now hate) into one I think is just OK, but then come to love - fully knowing there is a chance I’ll hate it in the new expansion and have to find another one.
