Getting back into Rated PVP since I took a break during Dragonflight’s Ret paladin horror show, But I’ve noticed that in Solo Q blitz, the 1500-2k MMR/MMV Climb leads to the most miserable games I’ve seen to date, Its a 50/50 either if your team is going to be stomped, and farmed, or if you’re the one stomping and farming the other, Theres no real balance that I’ve noticed, No real “Close call” games. Everyone seems to just Give up and AFK after the first flag capture, Or if Waterworks gets beat, ect ect.
Unfortunately happens in most games that have matchmaking. It’s really hard to actually form balanced matches.
There was a great video I watched that went into the details, but basically it’s hard to generate balanced matches because people aren’t consistent. Your own skill varies throughout the day and week.
For example someone who is tired after work isn’t going to play as well as they would during a relaxing weekend. Maybe someone was being toxic in chat your last 3 games and now you’re all riled up and not thinking straight. Maybe you’ve got a big meeting tomorrow that is distracting you, or maybe you just got a promotion at work and feeling very confident.
Also your own skill will change over time, along with the skill of the player base, and everyone’s skill level changes at different rates.
It would be so much simpler if people had an exact, never changing skill level that they always play at but that’s just not the case, so averages and guestimates need to be used. This creates situations where many games are just going to be absolute stomps, and the map design of most battlegrounds don’t help with this.
Waterworks is a great example, once you lose it in blitz you don’t have much time to make a comeback. You either need to rush it and take it back ASAP, or rush the other base and take it ASAP instead. So while a comeback is possible, you realistically only get 1 or 2 chances and you know it’s not likely to succeed so of course some people will give up.
I’m not sure how to solve that with map design and the way WoW PvP actually works.
IMO it is mostly the ‘GG next’ attitude
If momentum doesn’t swing to your team right away, and winning will require a comeback, there are a lot of folks who mentally fold and wait for the loss
And yeah it’s the luck of the draw if you get more of them than they do
Randoms gonna random
Have you tried reviewing your gameplay to see how you can improve rather than think it’s rng and your team always sucks?
It’s normal. If you are a 2800 MMR player, you probably do better in 2600 MMR lobbies than 1900 MMR lobbies. High MMR games usually are closer, so your individual impact is more noticeable.
There is lots of RNG in blitz in the lower matches unfortunately. Unless you’re playing a spec that can legitimately carry the group, grinding out wins can be tough if you get unlucky. I have pushed to 2.4+ on 3 toons and am working on the 4th and so far it’s been miserable. In the end, just focus on what your spec does best and if you have to, jump into crucial roles that aren’t being filled. Like the other day a hunter refused to sit a node and no one else was going to do it, so myself and a dk watched it for part of the game. Unsurprisingly that hunter still managed to lose the game for us.
Yea, happens a lot. Part of that is just the unfortunate design of the maps. It does go both ways though.
In the end, you might just have to grind until you can string together a few wins to get your MMR leaning in the right direction.
Lower mmr generally feels harder because the healers are worse.
Its extremely hard to do that without a reference point. Ive hit elite a few times and with blitz till roughly 2.6k mmr it usually comes down to team lottery.
You can tip the scales of course and some specs like mw and sub crush low mmr players but it is still a lot of rng
I’ve played 20+ characters this season dps and healer and queued with over 200 people at this point and if you think it’s a lottery its because you’re blaming your teammates and not reviewing your gameplay. Try warcraft recorder and you will win more
Ive down roughly ten getting several to elite in solo arena and one in blitz ( last season started super late this patch).
Its pretty rng early on. It isnt entirely but it isnt constantly so either. It is very possible to streak out of coin flip mmr and never run into it. Im not suggesting you don’t get out of it eventually either im talking maybe a dozen game not the guy stuck in hundreds.
I think it’s okay to be honest and say both are a factor, especially in the lower matches. Knowing that is just as helpful in how players approach the game. If a loss is outside of your hands, it’s worth knowing what you could have changed to step up into a crucial role in the next match.
While I do think we should focus most on the things we can change, it’s still okay to acknowledge that RNG does play a factor. I have been on a losing streak on my warrior and every match was outside of my control. Healer dc’ing. Multiple players being afk. Hunter capping on EOTS when we were about to win. Stuff like that. Knowing that there is the chance of a grind can let players know what they can address as opposed to what they can’t.
It’s rng like playing cards is rng
Part of the game, but not all of the game
Really more about working with the hand you are dealt than anything else
That is a very good way of putting it tbh.
