Why does spell pushback still exist?

Really? And why does it exist for some spells but not all?

Can we be consistent and just delete pushback altogether?

I was thinking about this the other day. Is there any point where this is relevant at all? I haven’t noticed spell pushback as a thing in years. We’re a long way away from the days of casters not being able to cast when multiple enemies are on them, or players being unable to cast if a hunter with a cat pet was on you.

TBH the only reason I can think of is so that the velf racial doesn’t get rendered completely pointless.

Seems silly to hold on to such an outdated mechanic just to make void elves feel special.

I mean they could just give us a new racial instead, same for if they make mogging free.

Ugh I would love free transmog. I spend an ungodly amount of gold on it :sob:

pushback adds depth and its immersive.

Why does spell pushback exist?

If you are trying to concentrate and focus your will into a spell, and some other adventurer is hitting you in the face, don’t you think that would impede your ability to concentrate and focus your will into a spell?

Probably as an indication to casters that face tanking mobs is probably not the most optimal thing for them.

If you are trying to swing your axe at the enemy but 16 other enemies are dogpiling on you, you’d probably not be able to actually swing your axe either, but you don’t see tanks getting stunned for 3s when they have more than 4 mobs on them at a time for immersion.

I feel like some spell pushback and 3 seconds of stun aren’t exactly analogues, but I guess you’re the expert.

Point being, yes, being in active combat would impede a spellcasters ability to cast spells. And it would be the exact same for other roles if there’s dudes in their face. You’d be put on the back foot.

But only casters get the “immersive” treatment of spell pushback.

Interrupts already exist as a separate mechanic to punish casters (even when Disarm for non-casters has been largely removed).

Wow there bud you’re going to get us melee bogged down by flinch mechanics.

i hate when they interrupt my beacon…

I’m pretty sure fighters have no problem fighting back when people are punching them but stuff that requires concentration and focus like for example golf would be extremely hard to do in the same situation.
But keep pushing your false equivalence.

I really don’t know how the BDK stuff works but yes I’d imagine a gigantic bear/having a sword and shield or being incredibly drunk would probably give you more confidence in facing 16 mobs than being in cloth wearing a staff.

casters can take no damage from range.

melee have to tank enemies for the most part.

its an old mechanic, sure. but it rewards better play from casters. its capped at 2 pushbacks iirc? classic was uncapped iirc

I’d agree, but only if we swapped PvE Parries into glancing blows. Having entire mechanics on a class/spec negated because of an unlucky butt-parry on a boss is criminal at this point.

As a warrior, having Colossus Smash or Thunderous Roar parried pretty much ends any burst I’ve got.

I honestly don’t even notice spell pushback anymore - but I suspect that’s mostly because I spend 99% of the time either silenced, stunned, interrupted or having to move.

I guess to warn you of possible dangers of using it. I get it all the time using Arcane explosion and is one of the main reason we have to have our barrier up at all times.
