What exactly are you winning though?
Time. And if you were a PvPer in SL you got the right to beat up casuals in Random BGs whose pockets weren’t as deep
It’s an MMO, you’re spending time regardless. Plenty of people got high rating gear without boosting or spending a dime, part of the fun is the journey not the destination.
That doesn’t really change my point. There are plenty of players who would rather pay to get ahead than partake in said journey
Ya, and that has literally nothing to do with the conversation, at all. Are you high?
I wouldn’t mind if they added paid skips to the shop like FF14 has for some content. I don’t care about people paying to skip content.
What I hate is the thriving industry revolving around boosting that is ruining the game.
So you’re paying for convenience is my point, this is not P2W.
I’m kinda in the same boat. The game is so old now that paying to skip things like leveling shouldn’t be a big deal.
The convenience to get ahead of players. And again in PvP, hold it over them unless they purchase a boost as well
Gee… I wonder… I mean… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I would say that that’s a gross oversimplification. But… I’m not saying anything. Because everything I say is “Inappropriate” and at the same time “Every Voice Matters”. I don’t know. You figure it out.
Eppur Si Muove.
A lot of mythic guilds sold a lot of carries for that mount. Most carries weren’t free.
Some people do consider being able to skip past months or years of slow, tedious grinding makes a game pay to win. Like, if you can only earn your way to the content you want to do after it’s obsolete and the game has moved on, you won nothing.
When Diablo Immoral was released it was estimated that it would take 10 years to earn the power that whales could buy overnight. Since then they fixed that by making it literally impossible. So pay to win or no?
And a ton of guilds did it for free (including us).
It is pay to win boost your character to 70 using credit card then go on another site buy gold and a boost to 80 when 80 use said gold to get into a gdkp get best items with that gold all you did was swipe your card and follow people you die don’t worry those people will ress you don’t know how to get these don’t worry pay them gold they will get you there. Please explain how this is not pay to win.
Wow is p2w. For some people. P2w really disrupts pvp. Usually in most games. Carries disrupt the ladder in this game.
I have stopped caring about wow pvp in expansions though.
In pve it doesnt matter so much since you arent pvping or competing with others. Its based on getting carried.
In dragonflight you will be able to buy more good gear that can be seen as pay to win/pay to skip if you dont want to grind the gold yourself.
Because the only thing you have won is scorn.
Unfortunate if you’re not a fan of puzzle games or Giger.
Oh man tell me about it OP, the other day I heard someone bragging that they bought a store mount and their DPS shot up by 500%
Blizzard really needs to stop with these P2W things in their cash shop!
Wow is pay to win, but it’s like 10% pay to win. If you removed the wow token and the paid boost it’s not pay to win.
But at the end of the day everyone has their own opinion.
To me if you can benefit from paying real money in anyway over someone else it’s pay to win. But I’m pretty strict on that front. I think buying retainers in FFXIV is pay to win.
WoW isn’t P2W, it’s Pay for Conveneince.
The wow token is the biggest culprit to pay to win. Unfortunately it’s here to stay. And Blizzard makes money everytime you buy one. Sure it’s just someone else’s gold, but Blizzard is making $5+tax on every sale. They won’t wholesale ban boosting and carries because people do legitimately buy boosts and carrys. But Blizzard can’t say they’re to blame. It was never this bad. The token did this. You get rid of that and the game ceases to by pay to win from a legal stance. People will still buy gold from third party websites, but it’s so accessible at the moment.
It’s splitting hairs at that point. To me both are equally the same. I always view pay for convenience the same way. Actually in some ways pay for convenience is worse because normally some aspect of the game is made worse in order to make spending money look attractive.
I’ll give Wow credit in that earning gold is easy and you get a lot of it.
To me the developer’s aren’t making the game pay to win in Wow’s case it’s the player’s themselves. Blizzard has always slapped pay to win down, but the reality is that I can pay a player money to do something for me. It’s not pay to win in any traditional sense, but I can still get player power this way or bragging rights etc.
Hench the whole barely pay to win thing I said up front.
