Why does Reddit think WoW is P2W?

Except someone could RMT the gold and use it to pay you. You can’t tell the difference.

Eh, not sure I believe that. Each WoW token sold is only a $5 profit for Blizzard given that it means someone gets to play a $15 month of WoW for free. If you want to talk about microtransactions you’d need to talk about the cash shop, which is a separate issue but not one that people will generally link to the P2W discussion given that all of it is cosmetic. While I don’t have the numbers on me I’ll confess I’d be surprised if WoW tokens were being sold in high enough volumes to even coming close to the amount of money made from players just paying for their subs directly.

That was unnecessarily rude but message received I guess.

All of acti bliz profits are from digital transactions.

So are all the profits from the company that I work for but we sell air traffic control software.

I’m not sure how that’s relevant? When a software company makes all their money from selling software that’s not a surprise. That’s not the same thing as making all their money from microtransactions though and even then, not all of those microtransactions will contribute to making WoW P2W. For instance I would imagine that the profits made from the cash shop dwarf those that come from WoW tokens but none of that would make WoW P2W.

TL:DR, that’s not really relevant. A company making its money from digital transactions is not proof of their game being P2W.

No. It’s broken out. Game sales are not included.

K. Now respond to the other half of my post.

Why would I address your guess as factual? Go ahead and guess.

I mean, that’s fine by me. It was a response to a point that you had made so the burden of proof is on you.

But I’ll be honest you seem to be drastically overestimating how much stake I have in this conversation.

Winning there would be having the best current content gear, current mythic raid clears and mounts. That’s why they’re calling it P2W cause’ you can buy boosts. Its true but its a necessary evil if Bliz wants its cut. Otherwise people go behind their backs to do it?? I guess?!

Arguments about whether or not the WoW token is P2W aside, I also think that the WoW token is overall good for the game. Giving players the option to pay for their sub with gold being the most obvious benefit and making the market much harder for illicit gold sellers is the other. Even if we all did unanimously decide that the token made WoW P2W, I’d rather we kept it on those benefits alone.

Wow, token = gold I could use to pay someone to win the hardest parts of the game for me. so Reddit is correct.

You’re not winning anything by being boosted, the real achievement is doing it yourself.

What will you do with all that gear? Just AFK and quit due to nothing else to strive for?

You’re not paying to win, you’re paying to quit.

Yes. /10 char

They win a good time. Amusement. Which is what people play video games for anyways.

5.1 billion dollars in micro trans in 2021 alone.

Dang that’s an insane amount.

Do a different form of progression end game that they’re actually interested in. (M+ vs Raids)
Work on solo challenges for transmog of previous tiers that are actually difficult to solo currently.
Enjoy the transmog that comes with the gear that was dropped from said content.
Enjoy the mount - which is usually what people buy carries for - because the person literally does not care about doing that form of content and is likely a collector.
Roleplay.

People who assume folks who have bought carries don’t play the game after are weird.
It’s an MMORPG.

If I don’t want to raid a tier, I can just pay some friends to toss me the mount and go back to farming prestige because I find that fun. Considering it for DF and skipping M+ for a tier cause I just find it obnoxiously boring.

I’m paying to not have my time wasted and work on my collection at that point. And with gold I got from playing the HA, not even the token, so even bigger whoop.

Right but that isn’t P2W, that’s paying for convenience.

WoW has been P2W since they added WoW tokens, you can buy tokens with money, then buy carries with gold.

I don’t really care about people buying tokens to buy crafted gear, but I’m really sick of carries clogging up the group finder and wish the boosters would be permabanned

I’d bet VERY FEW carries are bought with farmed gold, probably 99.9% are from WoW tokens.
