Why does raids tagging prevent others from tagging in the open world?

Any area that a raid is sweeping through in any open world content makes it impossible for anyone else to be able to complete anything while they dominate it. It doesn’t make any sense why when a member in a raid tags a mob that anyone outside of that group can’t either. I just tried my first Dragon Shrine assault or whatever they are calling them, and it was a chaotic mess.

An entire raid group was able to sweep through and prevent anyone else from completing anything themselves. They would also drop any rare so quickly that nobody else could get to them in time to kill them too. Which raises another point, why are rare mobs still open tagged even when a raid group attacks them, but normal mobs aren’t?

It isn’t just these dragon shrine assaults that this issue exists in. I’ve had it happen in many other areas too, including areas when I was trying to play through some of the SL campaign in Korthia.

Why do raids function this way when it comes to tagging mobs in the open world? It’s frustrating and makes some events pointless to even try to complete if you aren’t able to get into it.

There’s always been a tag cap. Just be glad they at least threw faction tagging out. Granted, I think a lot of us do wish they would finally get rid of the tag cap as well. Oft times it just gets in the way.

What do you mean by tag cap? Do you mean the amount of mobs that can be tagged by a raid at one time? If so, it doesn’t do anything, as they can tag enough to take over the entire area. I had to just leave because everywhere I went all of the mobs were being tagged by them and blown up in seconds. There wasn’t anything for me to kill.

Not so much a raid as players in general. Mobs have a set number of players that can tag them before they go grey to other players. Being in a group or raid just means one person tagging a mob will count for everyone they’re grouped with, provided they’re in range. This limit is typically suspended for event elites.

The same thing will happen if a lot of ungrouped players start smacking the same enemy. The people that got to the party late just end up being SOL.
