You design player vs player to not account gear difference, premades, and finally broken abilities and items. That is all fine, but why have progression locked behind rating? Seems ignorant to have all of the former as well as the latter.
PVP has been an afterthought since MoP ended, sadly.
I disagree. I think this expansion’s PvP is working as fully intended.
I was not around for MoP, so I have only experienced the downfall. That is sad considering it has been over 10 years
What is the intention? It is awful from my perspective
The PvP is terrible. There is a massive power scale with no distinction between players with no gear and players with maximum gear, creating a ridiculous two-shot meta gameplay that makes it miserable to engage in. Didn’t have this problem before BFA. This PvP model was horribly developed.
i think they want to delete pvp but they dont know how so they are just letting it die naturally.
This is logical. Everything they do seems to make it worse
You missed the best time to pvp, especially to play shaman, brother.
I agree totally. But we are looking at it from the perspective of people who think that that PvP is a part of the game that can and should be enjoyed by a great many players of different skill levels and goals.
The current design seems intended to reward people high on the ladder, who started playing that part of the game like 2 jobs from day 1, and punish those who want to run randoms for entertainment as they used to. Perhaps they are thinking casuals will be inspired to pay thousands of dollars for carries or will want to work their way up past the carriers who are boosting their RMT customers.
This is not a natural death. It is being horribly murdered by bad design decisions that are driving people away from the game.
The problems with SL PVP, as I see it, are:
-
iLevel difference is too big. I’m not a fan of complete normalization, but the big jump from entry level to top tier is a bit high.
-
RMT boosters are too prevalent and Blizz hasn’t done anything to stop it beyond lip service.
-
Upgrading Conquest gear with honor, as opposed to Conquest, basically means better geared people are constantly farming normal BGs after hitting their rating. It makes randoms not fun for new/undergeared people and was designed simply to increase daily metrics so high rated PVPers wouldn’t just log for the week.
I think removing honor as the means to increase item level and using something tied to rated play will make normal BGs fun again and more accessible.
why have any ilvl difference between rated and unrated at all? just let everyone be the same ilvl in all instanced pvp and warmode.
Haha the fun thing is that despite its state, there are still uber tryhards that get pissed if anyone is not geared.
Like dude, its a random BG, yes i’m a crunchy 42k health mage, but that paladin i just wiped the floor with has only 38k. And that warlock who obliterated me twice with one hit has 72k Health.
It’s a joke at this point.
Though legitimately I have been having fun with it, even when getting stomped, because at least its quick and honestly its way to much fun to spellsteal someone’s ghost wolf form as they keep trying to run away while super slowed!
Because rating inflation exists since the beginning of times. Assuming a 1:1 win/loss rate by the end of the patch you will reach 2k+.
I think the fun part is the burst. The crappy part is being one shot. It is in a weird state right now. I will say that strategy has been almost removed from pvp and I find that bothersome. The rating/gear mechanics just make no sense
Rating shouldn’t have a part of casual pvp.
I think you are looking for a first person shooter game
I am not sure why we don’t just get stat templates and let every pvp reward just be cosmetic. It worked for Overwatch. Heck, one of the reason I don’t pvp anymore is because we have so many other options for pvp that don’t require me to grind just to actually have a shot at winning!
This makes sense. Separate rating/gear from the enjoyment of casual pvp
Or you know, basically every other MMORPG that has PvP and normalizes gear to at least some degree in that game mode.
Also can I point out how ridiculous comments like this always are? FPS and MOBAs are nothing like WoW PvP. The only games that are similar are other MMOs and even then it isn’t close to the same. Maybe instead of a snide remark like “go play an fps” you could try to understand that people can like the game mode but want equalization like basically every other competitive PvP game, other MMOs included.
They shouldn’t have to look for another game or genre entirely just because Blizzard thinks gear progression in PvP needs to look like it does in PvE. Especially when the previous, successful devs that actually had populated PvP ladders (and a much more populated game in general) had already figured out that equal gear was the way to go.
please don’t troll my thread. thanks
Maybe try reading my post buddy, I’m not trolling and in fact am agreeing with the idea behind your OP.
