It’s insane to me that the animation for power word: shield still has not been updated this far into the game, it looks terrible. No other class has such a blatantly outdated spell.
It needs to be updated, with an option for shadow as well.

Blizzard doesn’t think priest is cool. That’s all. Bran even has what could absolutely be new PWS particles in delves right now.
PWS isn’t even the only spell. All of our basic healing spells use vanilla particles, most of our spec specific healing spells have particles from TBC or WotLK. Shadow is by far the best off, having mostly Cata and MoP era particles, though they’re predominantly not visible and its most noticeable abilities use particles from WotLK or earlier.
The only particles priest got more recently than MoP that come to mind are Void Torrent and Void Bolt. Every skill discipline has uses particles from WotLK or earlier, and I’m pretty sure the most recent particles holy has are from MoP.

People would probably cry hard if they changed it tbh.
Then there would be a million " add a glyph " posts ( like when they changed chain heal’s animation )
Plus Blizz is pretty lazy/slow with this stuff. With all the extra balancing and dev time the hero trees probably added I doubt something like updating PW shield’s animation is even on the radar.

Why indeed. Also, spriest version should be a void shield. Talk about a transmog theme breaking visual.

then getting interrupted in pvp would lock you out of shield though as shadow that would be bad for them
We’re discussing the visuals, not the school. The visual for shadow should be dark.

We did get the whole voidweaver tree too.
I suppose I consider Entropic Rift a part of the new Void Torrent particles since they’re tied together, but you’re right. We did get Entropic Rift and new Void Torrent and the oracle face and Clairvoyance particles in TWW.

Also didn’t they recently mute the Atonement animation for other players? Maybe they really do just hate priests
Smite, Holy Fire, almost all of the heals… It’d be nice to have an animation upgrade for almost the entire toolkit. I suppose changes like that are reserved for paladins. At least resto druid got some animation love this coming patch. It’s a start, maybe Blizz will be like "oh yeah priests exist… "

Meanwhile Shamans have had like 27 updates to their basic lightning bolt. 
Edit: Druid healing spells have new visuals next patch, apparently?

Visual effects for the following spells have been updated:
- Efflorescence
- Lifebloom
- Regrowth
- Rejuvenation
- Swiftmend
- Tranquility
- Wild Growth

I’ve never looked at my character once while casting a spell 
didn’t even know this was a thing. No, blizzard obviously doesn’t hate us. If this is a big enough deal to enough players I’m sure it will warrant then putting it on their to do list but probably pretty low on prio. We have seen a lot of positive updates for priests in the last couple years, even a lot of rework attempts on shadow, for better or worse, they’re trying to give it an identify the playerbase is satisfied with and seem to be continuing this going fwd. Do you all find the visual affects that bad and regressed compared to other classes?
Yes. If you’re not looking at spell effects yourself, then it wouldn’t be as obvious for you. My specific issues are with PW:S and smite.

How was shamans and Druid before? Just as bad or worse? I wonder if they’re updating effects one class at a time and if so then hopefully we’re soon on the list for everyone’s sake
Lightning bolt has had 3? Separate graphical redesigns. PWS looks exactly how it did in vanilla.
I think I would be one of those crying if they changed Penance.

They could easily split shadow into shadow and void schools.
Then we could also get shadowmend back
iirc the new shaman chain lightning and lightning bolt ( and and even chain heal ) all were received negatively for the most part and glyphs were asked for almost instantly ( on these forums at least, I think most people in game just didn’t care or in general don’t paly with a high enough particle density for it to matter )
Here I am hoping they can turn shadow spells into a recolor of light so I won’t be a filthy heretic each time I need to DPS, meanwhile they can’t even make a 2005 bubble purple.
