Why does Pawn keep recommending me Int gear?

Im a hunter and I cant wrap my head around this. Im new to this so what some kind of way to tell what gear is an upgrade. And this is making it hard as its always telling me int gear is better

I could only imagine it’s because hunters use mana as a resource, so more int more mana more damage. That’s also why spirit is good, for easier mana reg. Perhaps someone with more experience could weigh in here, I only just started leveling my hunter in tbc.

Hunters need Int for their mana pool.

Compare PAWN’s stat weights to whatever Guide you trust if you think something’s wonky.

Does pawn take into account what spec youre using? I’m wondering how it’d work as a hybrid druid

Not sure how it works. I just know if has default stat weights for each 3 specs

At your level you probably don’t need to worry about it, you won’t be running out of mana anyway, so prioritize dex/con gear. Once your in the outlands, almost all the hunter quest items will be more stat appropriate. Mana will become much more an issue when you do heroics and raids.

Just keep a few mana potions on the side in case of emergencies.

I’ve found that pawn does not always give the best recommendations. I use it as a base line but don’t follow it blindly.

Don’t use an addon to determine gear. Know what each stat does for you and take upgrades based on how you play.

It’s simple, if you are running BM, then your pet should be taking the damage, not you, so you should be more worried about having high damage and a high mana pool. This way you can keep using skills like mend pet and your shots.

This is why Pawn is making these suggestions. It is not unheard of to have Pawn suggest a leather or cloth piece for a Hunter because it either increase your DPS or mana pool, or both.

These are the stat weights recommended by Pawns for BM hunter:
Agi=1, Int=0.8, Hit=1, Crit=0.8, AP=0.43, mana per sec=2.4!!

I would love an experienced tbc hunter player to give a second opinion about these weights. As a retail player I find it difficult to understand that Auchenai Boots (item=28177) are a 63% improvement over Sure-Step Boots (item=25717) for BM hunter.
