I don’t typically play melee but when I did try a few of them out, I just couldn’t get into the “monk” fantasy.
On some races it seems natural (pandas, humans), on some it’s kind of “um … ok I guess” (elves, goats), then I see some races as monk and I’m like “that’s just wrong on so many levels” (Tauren, dwarves, darkspear trolls, and OMG Kul Tirans).
As a side note, I do giggle when I see Gnome Monks. You can’t get cuter than that.

They’re only on the back if they’re the same weapon now, except for fists. It’s incredibly awkward and doesn’t look good because of the animations. When I had two different weapons, I would slice and dice myself up all the time. This is why I either transmog to the invisible fists or transmog so the weapons are the same.
I know it’s not the absolute best representation but Raider IO shows there are roughly about the same amount of Shaman players as Monk players - which is on the lower end of the class spectrum unfortunately. There is no doubt, if one looks at both classes and each of their specs, that Monk is stronger than Shaman.

I used to like my monk until Blizz took away my ability to toss barrels at designated locations. That was easily one of the best skills ever and they took it away. So I’m boycotting my monk until they bring it back.
I love my monk, I’d play it right now if I could be bothered to deal with Azerite.
They’re a good class, so I assume it’s just the lack of immediate visual presence for new players of the class.
Could also be that they share the same role as the eyebeam hunters, which are more immediately attractive to longtime fans.
I have 2 120 monks and a 110.
I do feel like the rotation is more complicated for WW than other melee DPS and tanking works differently than every other spec so it feels wierd if you are not used to it which drives away new players
As silly and simple as it may sound, I think this is a major reason.

Well, for sure. Monk is arguably one of the strongest few melee. Top three, at least.
I was just trying to bring myself around to leveling mine. I just can’t. I want to, but I log in, get in a few fights and then log out because there not as fun as most other classes. I think they are more fun than they were in WOD. I used to love my Monk. Come on Blizz lets Make Monks Great Again!
That is due to a technicality that involves a lot of moving around in BoD. Not moving around DH’s hangs with the best of them for sure. Your mobility alone compared to Ret is just crazy.
I got a Kul Tiran monk to 112 and it changed my opinion a little. Definitely a different feel to other classes that have obvious rotations but Monks take a little bit more attention to get their rotations down.
Their roll gives me motion sickness. They seem interesting enough, but I just can’t take that damn roll.

I wont play monks because of windwalker’s mastery.
Otherwise, its a super class.
You must never see farming groups on your servers, at every core is 1 brewmaster with their ox statue and 4 lazerchickens pulling everything that moves in the area.
I honestly see less demon hunters / shamans running around.

Real reason I really prefer the rotation of the monks over any other melee dps. I really don’t like the idea of spell spamming when you are waiting for other skills to be off CD. Flying Kick has often gotten me out of sticky situations. And I really enjoy summoning a tiger to help with the deeps. I really only want one thing… just bloody ONE THING… The Emperor’s Capacitor.

I stopped playing mine when Clash was removed. Call it petty but I loved Clash and that did it for me.
Why don’t I play a Monk?
Because it’s a jungle out there!
I like how my previous comments here still use my old character name. That’s annoying.
If you’re concerned about the weapons, just go get the Handwraps of Serenity and xmog your weapons to them. That’s what my player did with me. Now I fight with my hands and only my hands.
