Just got back into the game since the beginning of Shadowlands. Had enough Honor to buy up all the blue pieces from the PvP vendor, sitting at 260 PvP iLvl, 68k unbuffed HP, and 22% vers… Doesn’t matter, I get one and two shot every game lol…
I just don’t get why iLvl matter in Arenas? Shouldn’t it be common sense from a balance perspective that iLvl should have absolutely no effect on an Arena match, just skill? I just pre-purchased Dragonflight and snagged a 6 month subscription thinking, “ya lets give WoW a try again” and now I can’t even play the game haha. Not sure why I expected anything less awful.

Well, I agree, it is dumb, but for different reasons. I like arena and M+, but I can’t use any of my vaults for M+ until I’m full conquest geared. Which it usually works out fine, by the time my PVP gear is upgraded to rival+ it’s more than fine for doing KSM with, BUT this being a 3 month season really makes gearing feel considerably more critical if you’re trying to do multiple contents.
It would make things better if PVP was just equalized ilvl when you queued into it.

Excellent timing because Honor gear goes up to 285 which is the ilev of basically everybody right now minus maybe one piece in the case of non-2h users.
This doesn’t passively stop, even with everybody in the same gear.

Would like to know the same.
Tried to upgrade s4 honor gear but it didn’t work. So I guess you have to wait until you can buy the s4 conq gear to upgrade?
That or doing high M+ keys.
Make sure you have the renown quests from your sanctum for upgrades
Legion had the right idea, if only we could have adjusted the stat templates to our liking.

Could potentially give rise to balancing concerns which is why a degree of control is generally maintained. An example right now is that we only have so many pieces on the vendor, and most are vers-weighted.
the amount of ilevel progression this expansion has been way out of control. They should get rid of lfr and heroic and just do a slightly easier normal and a slightly easier mythic raid tier system. 4 tiers every patch is too much.
I ran into a 33k hp warrior in an arena and oneshot him with an aimshot crit. I felt bad cuz I knew he probably just came back and was still in his 213 season 1 gear. Sorry bud now its worthless! He may as well have been a level 50.

LFR players are too anxious to do non-automated content.
Normal is for the very relaxed players who are able to talk with others.
Heroic is for people who don’t want to sweat for mythic prog.
Mythic prog is for people who hate themselves.
I mean there’s battlegrounds that’d get him up to 285. Without tier, sure, but that’s where he should be. Pieces are like 500-800 honor ea and start at 265, too, so don’t say that it’s too much honor.
I guess I feel that gear should just not be as exchangeable or devalued as much throughout the course of an expansion.
in classic people still ran MC or BWL when Naxx was out, and you could still hold your own in tier 1. In BC as well, gear didnt make as huge a difference as it does now. A level 60 in s4 gear shouldn’t have 3-4x the HP as a fresh level 60 in quest blues.
Yea catchup gear is relatively easy to get but the returning player experience is pretty bad when your gear, which was probably top tier when you took a break, is now 100% trash and you need to replace it like its a new expansion.

They tried this with templates and super squished scaling during legion, and to some extent during BFA. The templates were gone in BFA but scaling was there.
Players largely didn’t like it and we had all time low arena participation. It turns out that people like gearing / having gear progression in WoW PVP. The problem right now is that the difference between low end and high end pvp gear is completely and utterly ridiculous.
I’d be fine if we went back to MoP gearing where you got your purple, and it was your BiS until next season. Later in the season you could full gear an alt in a day or two, you got the feeling of progression and powering up, and then you were good to go. I level capped and full geared every class in the game in MoP S15 and it was probably the most fun i ever had with WoW.
Anyway, i think a happy medium is to have reasonably accessible pvp gear that doesn’t have numerous levels to upgrade and massive ilvl gaps based on rating. We don’t need artificial scaling if we go back to a MoP style gearing system.

Why is there even ilvl in pve? why is there ilvl in anything? we should just log in be max level with max gear max gems max enchants all mounts all cosmetics every title with everything unlocked.

Well it’s not just item level. You need double Legendaries, max conduits, 4 pc Tier set and some sockets.
SL is the worst gearing expansion with it’s convoluted systems. I’d say just mess around have fun but wait till DF when they fix gearing. At least in DF there is no more Arena/Rated gear. You can just do BGs and get Conquest gear and be same level and we don’t have the dumb borrowed powers anymore.
They should of implemented it now but…Blizz is gonna be Blizz.

blizzard realised in wrath that the game needs to be more of an addiction than a hobby, therefore they changed the gameplay loop to 1 daily quest hub per patch and a renewing grind that progresses into self loathing

I have renown 80 but can’t upgrade the honor items
you need to accept the quest from the covenant
you likely will still need to do arenas or rbgs for vault gear though unless they change how it works.
