Why Does Hunter Get Pet Scaling But Not Warlock?

Nobody has been asking this question I feel like. Where does Demonology Warlock fit into this?

Are Demonlogy warlocks forced to have a useless non-scaling pet even when you get reach relevant pet damage talents next Phase? Or is it coming next phase to compliment the addition of the level 40 cap?

Will they add a Felguard pet with pet scaling so Demonology can use that as their main rune/source of damage?

Why did Hunter get scaling and the only other pet class did not?

I mained a Warlock in 2019 Classic, and I have a 25 warlock on both alliance and horde on SoD. I want to be hopeful about their future.

Edit: After testing apparently warlock pets get a small very insignificant amount of scaling in SoD. It’s just not good enough imo.

That’s what I want, imps blasting me in the face for 200.

Most likely because warlock pets are not intended to be a primary or even significant source of warlocks’ damage output, and mostly exist to provide some form of utility.

I would love demonology pets to be a threat.

It’s SoD though. Time to change things up. I will be scratching my head when BM Hunter is incredibly powerful next phase with access to all their pet damage boosting talents while Demonology is just a meme spec because their pets have no scaling with the player.

Are warlocks always just going to be spamming chaos bolts and incinerate for the rest of SoD?

I wouldn’t expect BM to be as wildly potent as it is now, relatively speaking, due to scaling. This will be even more apparent at 60. Extrapolating performance or output linearly from 25 is just not how the math of the game works.

You can speculate all you want. One pet spec has scaling, and one does not. And that’s not right.

And yet demo locks had no problems being relevant in Classic. I don’t see any reason why they would now.

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAA!!!

I played a warlock for almost all of classic in 2019-mid 2020. And they were nothing but a curse slot and a shadow bolt turret. Pets had no usefulness beyond an imp giving out its buff.

There were NO Demo locks in PVE end game.

You weren’t even allowed to use your dots because they took up debuff slots (I know thats removed now though)

They do in fact, they benefit from your stamina, intellect and armor. In addition they get one attack power per 2 of your highest spell power. They’re increases in spell power seems to be very small, I’ll get again but I think it’s around 1/4.

I want to see felguards cleaving 0 stam mages.

I’d love to see proof of this, because in OG Classic neither hunter or warlock pets had scaling. And nobody has mentioned warlock pet scaling (my level 25 warlock’s pet is basically useless)

If you have a warlock, summon your pet with gear on, and then resummon it naked, and you will see a significant difference in their stats. Particularly if you have meta rune, summoning them while shifted gives them an insane amount of armor.

Because warlocks can’t feed their pets.

Ok I just tested it on my warlock. You’re right, they do get a very very small amount of scaling.
Succubus
800 Hp → 602 Hp
900 armor → 774 armor
37-49 dmg to 34-47 dmg.

It’s just insignificant.

I’d expect some demo related runes to be in the mix in future phases.

Demonic tactics and demonic pact look like they just weren’t good enough in phase 1 to get much use (and pact doesn’t actually help most of the pets themselves).

It will start ramping up once spell power gear becomes more common. But a 30% increase in armor and HP is very significant if you ask me.

I dunno. I guess I just had this idea in my mind where there would be a demonology spec that would be similar to how powerful Beast Mastery is now. But it’s a slippery slope because Warlock’s scale better than Hunter’s do with gear so the hunter’s need that extra pet damage.

With improved imp specced it’s consistently second on damage.

The tradeoff is that hunters have to play hunter.
