I’m curious. Hunter is very much middle of the pack in every aspect of the game due to the deadzone. I am very much hoping blizzard one day decides that maybe they went slightly too far back.
A class being subpar (completely helpless in some situations) due to a non sense mechanic is well…silly.
Because thats what they decided on back then. Also good luck reloading a crossbow/single shot musket while some animal is trying to kill you or someone humanoid is swinging a weapon at you.
You know, when a pet is chewing on my face and it takes 3 times as long to get a cast off, i’m not too concerned with how hard it is to be a hunter with a dead zone.
It’s one of those things where from a class balance situation, yes it’s awful. However, at least for me, it does add to the fantasy of playing a hunter.
It’s really where the idea of “No Changes” comes from. There are a million little improvements that have been made over the years to modern wow, but some of them do take away from the RPG feel of the game. The issue is that which changes are just nice improvements and which hurt the fantasy are going to vary from person to person.
The dead zone drives me nuts sometimes, but I still am having more fun on my Classic hunter than my BfA one right now, and some of that is that Classic fulfills the fantasy better for me.
Ever tried to shoot a long barreled weapon at a target really close to you? Easy. And hit it? Very difficult. That is probably why they choose a dead zone, to replicate the challenge of short-range shooting with a longish range weapon. Dido for archery.
No. Because back then MMORPGs were roleplaying games, based on you guessed it roleplaying games. The idea was variety, pros and cons to each class, race, each choice you made for your character as far as questing, gear, reputation, etc. As more and more non-rpg players started playing WoW things started to change.
Not sure what you mean by too far back when 1.12 was a later version of vanilla. Deadzone on wowwiki and wowpedia state it was not removed until Patch 2.3 which is BC. For some reason I thought it was later than that but my memory sucks. Anyway, this was just how it was in vanilla and players back then could still beat other classes if they knew how to take advantage of whats available and making range their key to winning.
think they tried too hard to live the fantasy of a hunter. feeding pets, arrows, quivers for arrows, dead zone. thuse why we have SV melee skills for when thing are in our dead zone we swap to melee and try to gap.
to me people focus WAY… to much on topping meters instead of enjoying the class/game. when you look at classic many aspects people fail to consider when it comes to dps increase such as buffs, debuffs, etc…
balance and class design always been an issue in this game
