Why does DOT class or spec exist?

Why not design just burst classes and or specs why design a concept of DOT when burst is more lucrative versus DOT where it would take a while for the damage to fully kick in?

Because it’s fun. At least it used to be.

People like the slow, desperation some toons can get as their health slowly melts away and they can’t do anything about it.

Sometimes it’s the savoring of the inevitable than the kill itself.

  1. You can have both. DoT classes tend to have ways to apply their dots quickly these days, and also have burst options built into their kit.
  2. The game isn’t just Queued content and lower M+. DoTs work totally fine in a Raid Setting and anywhere where the enemies actually live longer than 10 seconds.
