I don’t understand why door of shadows is a 1.5 second cast time (which doesn’t get affected by haste btw) when it literally only teleports you 35 yards. I can double that distance with soulshape and it’s an instant cast with a 15 yard blink every 5 seconds. By the time I get the cast off most classes can usually reach that distance by walking.
because they want you to feel suspense when using it to avoid a heavy boss ability
The point isn’t for speed (though it does help a little with that), the point is that it can get you places where you simply aren’t capable of getting on your own. It’s also useful for bypassing traps in Da Other Side.
For the same reason WG is still in the PVP rotation…these people have no idea how to run a game.
Sure, but it’s useless unless the rest of your group has it. Let me blink into a pack of mobs, that will work out.
Who said it was exclusively for group content?
If you want to look at what it can do in group settings though, it’s actually useful for melee on the Sire fight, as they can take a warlock portal over to a platform to help kill one of those adds, then door of shadows back.
Nobody said it was exclusively for group content, you gave an example and I explained why it was a bad example. And yes door of shadow’s is pretty useful for melee on Sire. But what does the cast time have to do with it? If it was instant what difference would it make? It still has pathetic range and the soulbinds are even worse.
Are you talking about Da Other Side? Why is it a bad example? It still helps you personally avoid potential deaths on the slimes/oil jets even if the rest of your party doesn’t have it.
It is a bad example since even though you avoid the slime, you’ll be teleporting right into a pack of mobs. If you’ve ever done the dungeon there’s a pack of mobs in the middle of the slime lanes and at the end of them. So yes you can avoid them but you’ll just end up pulling mobs to your death. Also engineers and warlocks can already completely skip the mechanic for their groups.
and torghast.
I love this ability there. Wait for timing on flame and spike traps? I think not.
That’s not even remotely true. The pack in the middle is generally pulled out of the slime to kill before you cross, then you’re going to be engaging the mob at the end anyways, and the tank will be able to easily grab it before it has a chance to kill anyone.
I’ve used it there quite a lot, and it’s very convenient.
Regardless, my point is that it makes zero sense for an ability that has a 35 yard range to be on a 1.5 cast time. I’d find myself using the ability 10x more if it was instant cast.
I’d use any ability more often if they buffed them. That hardly makes them pointless in their current form.
So you believe that door of shadows is on the same tier as soulshape?
Are we talking the frogger slimes?
I only just learnt last week that an engineer can press the big red button to the left (once you enter the room) to freeze the slimes in place.
Running across was a pain because I kept snagging on the edges of the trench and getting slimed.
If you’re going to go comparing it to the other abilities, Night Fae really stands out, as the other two are also pretty minor.
I only use it to avoid PvE stuff. Or to jump across chasms or change levels. Other than that it’s kinda meh.
It should probably have no CD or cast time when in rested place to match soulshape too. Might be fun.
Honestly, I feel like this is less of the case anymore considering Door of Shadows requires pathing. It’s honestly as bad as warrior abilities involving transportation now. There’s nothing fun about it. Can’t use it to teleport over gaps in the upper floors of Skoldus Halls or anything fun.
Pretty sure door was instant in beta. Everyone complained because they thought they would be forced to take venthyr to do skips in M+ so bliz nerfed it.
