Why does Blizzard make Goblins talk like characters from the Sopranos tv show?

What’s the big idea here.

Goblins with a thick stereotypical North Jersey accent seems right to me.

The accent that never seems to be “right” are the Jamaican Trolls

woah woah woah, you leave my Jamaican trolls alone.

If we’re going to complain about accents lets complain about void elves, why are they English? did the void make them English? are English people of the void?

I thought that was obvious.

Ey, I’m raidin’ hea!

I suppose a joke could be made about Void Elves canonically being Azeroth’s version of Brexit, though I’m thinking the Ren’dorei got off easier than the British since they at least get to have superpowers in addition to the maddening voices.

every race in WoW is based on a culture in real life. goblins are not an exception.

they’re really based off of people who live in nj, not specifically the sopranos.

I much prefer Jamaican trolls to the African Zandalari Trolls, since Zandalari Trolls also were Jamaican prior to BFA, and were only made African because Black Panther is a good movie and hurr hurr zandalar forever is an easy way to cash in on pop culture reference

Turns of the Isle of Kezan was in New Jersey this whole time.

It works, at least for the Gobbo Chicks…
What? I have specific tastes!

Goblins are supposed to mimic a Jersey accent. So we know they have to sound like one of the following:

  • Sopranos gangster
  • Jersey Shore doofus
  • Chris Christie

It’s easy to see why they went Sopranos.

They first had said accent when they introduced Gazlowe in WC3’s The Frozen Throne Expansion.

Still such a great show.

There was like a 6 month difference in BFA release date and Black Panther release date.

Your theory is that in the what…1-2 month window that would have been needed… they called in all voice actors to completely change all the voice acting?

I’m also pretty sure that the Zandalari aesthetic is a conglomerate of various Mesoamerican cultures, like the Aztecs, Mayans, and Olmecs (which means their real-world influence is effectively the neighbor of the real-world influence of the other Troll tribes). Not really anything African.

The phrase “Zandalar forever” might be a nod to Black Panther that they added late in development, but it’s probably just that. Like how the Shado-pan in MoP would go “we are the watchers on the wall” after Game of Thrones took off.
