Why does Blizzard lie constantly about maintenance

Why does this company that we spend billions of our dollars on constantly lie to us.

Instead of just telling us a week prior or even a day or two prior they only told us that there was a 7 to 8AM maintenance. Now that we’ve reached tuesday they swapped it all of a sudden to “7AM-3PM”

This is unbelievable.

It’s one thing to take down servers for maintenance, it’s another thing to blatantly lie to your customers. If I had known that it was going to be shut down for 1/4 of yesterday and 1/4 of today I wouldn’t have resubscribed until later today or tomorrow.

Thieves.

Total maintenance time was 7 hours for both…At $0.02 cents per hour you deserve a $.14 rebate. Grow up.
Oops, I just saw they added time, my bad. Same situation though. at 2 cents per hour. but in the TOS you might notice there is no guarantee of up time. Frustrating, yes, life changing, no.

I’ll never figure out why they don’t do their maintenance between 3AM and 6AM PST.
And maintenance is one thing, but eight hours of it? WTH are they doing? And why haven’t they figured out hot-swapping so that they never have to go down? How many other services close down operations once a week for lengthy periods of time?
These aren’t complaints really, just observations. It seems to me that there’s a better way of doing things over there.

Really constructive comment. I really enjoyed this.

and @Alarusi Yes because it’s all about money right?

Not at all about the planning/etc of our weeks/schedules to play a game we enjoy on our free time for a bit. I mentioned the subscription because it’s pertinent for lots of people. Maybe you have a lot of money and that 20-30 cents doesn’t matter to you but not everyone is as lucky as you. It’s nice that you have a job and everything but not everyone is as lucky as you are.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I do not have a job. I’m 77 and retired and have more things to do than stress over up time in a game. And if as you say your life centers on just this activity, oh well sorry for your loss. And in the 18 years of this game this down time is nothing compared to what it was when I started playing back in year 4 when the yearly gift was a tiny polar bear. And yet again its about up time not being guaranteed.

Congrats on story of your lifetime. meanwhile all the maintenance could easily be rescheduled to low online players activity hours.
We had maintenance yesterday, we have it all day today, and definitely tomorrow.
The realms are empty at early morning EST time, why blizzard does not respect the players cutting on their time, while could easily readjust maintenance hours instead.

Could it possibly be that the entire world is down at the same time and for those in Europe it is more inconvenient as well as China the biggest market and others.

first, they say at 12 and now they say at 3 what kind of professionalism is this, like really, and to top things off we don’t get time back to our accounts for this inconvenience

Could it possibly be that Europe has every single realm on right now?

Hate to burst your bubble there big guy, but EU and Chinese servers aren’t down, but will indeed have their maintenance at inconvenient hours for themselves (presumably) as well. It is currently only NA and OCE servers that are down for maintenance.

FYI Blizzard does maintenance in Russia during 6:00 and 7:00 AM local time.

I don’t think they’re lying. Things just come up; stuff happens. That’s life, expect that.

Clearly not, you’re here. While telling other people to ‘go elsewhere’ of course the ‘rules for thee but not for me’ type again.

Of course despite all your chat you don’t even understand how WoW maintenance is different for each region either.

I always think this as well. In what other industry is it acceptable to do stuff like this on a weekly basis? During high traffic time periods. And for a paid service. It’s insane.

I’m not going to pretend to know their architecture better than they do, but even yesterday’s Battle.net maintenance with the authentication servers had me scratching my head. I would be very surprised to learn that it’s just not possible to update their authentication service on a rolling basis and institute a temporary queue for authentication or something. Taking them all down at once during the middle of the day for planned maintenance is insane to me. Maybe Microsoft will help them implement some better practices for their infrastructure management.

it is a fab observation. my bank account that does maintenance between 2 am and 5 am. less traffic time for their apps and online bank.
but no matter, i prefer them to do their fix on tuesday, its fix it day for Blizzard. and for all the years. its to be expected.

I touched grass, and I felt nothing! My hatred can not be quenched by a stupid saying like “touching grass”

All jokes aside, it is frustrating to read Sunday and Monday that maintenance will be 1 hour, then change to several hour long maintenance. Oh well, Tuesday, I got other games I can play.

im glad someone else brought this up, tuesday maintainence for a few hours has always been mildly inconvenient and something ive accepted over the years but this is definitely getting ridiculous… i play just as much in the middle of the night as i do during the day because my rl schedule is ever changing, but i would be much more accepting of massive amounts of downtime if it were happening during those low pop hours. these last minute shut downs and changes are just another straw added to the camels back and blizzard cant afford to keep piling it on…
