Why does barrage talent even exists?

So its a pretty bad spell, does no aoe damage at all, has 1 terrible talent buff (rapidfire barrage) and there are 2 other builds for aoe like multishot build with like 5 talents for aoe or volley and explosive shot build

i dont get it, i even like the barrage animation and if you talent for it to become rapid fire barrage it looks pretty cool but its worthless

I actually tried it out an it did 1.3% of my damage over 5 casts (5 minutes) like what makes it so strong that it needs 1 min cd? it literally does nothing lol. even if it was buffed to be 100% rapidfire damage it would still no damage, because its a rapidfire that has a 1 min CD.

If I see a hunter use barrage I immediately know they are not a good hunter.

There is no other spell in the game that immediately tells other people: I’m a noob

At least no other spell that makes it so obvious, it’s pure garbage and it pulls a lot of stuff accidentally

MM rapid fire barrage is cool , but behind that horrible talent lol not even worth

And even for that, bugged Kill Shot talents do a better job, because they can shoot through walls.

Barrage is the staple talent for hunter botting and mass-pulling mobs, and is widely considered the ultimate “huntard” ability.

Absolute disgrace. I would immediately delete it if it were up to me.

I still use it for farming leather and would prefer not having it removed.

You can yeet demo locks and unholy death knights with sentinel rf barrage. Since all five rapidfires benefit from trick shots, you funnel a lot of damage into the primary target just via the bulk of ticks cleaving off of pets, hitting it and applying sentinel. At bare minimum they freak out and use their stops on that instead of your actual burst which will free that up for a clean rf/wailing/rf on something. Also works well against bm hunter teams with a melee partner, because you can use the bm pets to funnel into the melee that will probably be hitting the same thing that the pets are on or near.

I could be wrong, but maybe many specs have these non-optimal talents that you can and should avoid, so that you dont feel incomplete without being able to choose all the talents.

It has it’s uses. I use it for farming, and stealing mobs. There’s this group who have a hunter that pulls all the mobs, and makes it so no one else can tag. I use Barrage to spam everything that way I can get some matts.

Exactly. Just because it isn’t useful in group content doesn’t make it trash.

Every ability in the game has a use from time to time.

Barrage is fantastic for misdirecting a large group of adds to your tank (or pet), for pulling in a bunch of enemies to farm for skinning/cloth/whatever, and as a means to determine if you are likely to aggro an enemy with incidental AoE (you can then Feign Death to drop combat, but now you know which enemies will pull).

If you consider the use of a single ability to be the determining factor in whether or not somebody is good at their class, I suggest you reconsider.
