Ever since Vanilla, I have wondered why AQ gear has looked the way it does. Its ugly, largely uninspired (except maybe the plate set and leather sets), and anything that is not from a tier set looks like random leveling greens (barring the weapons).
So, why does AQ gear look like hot garbage?

Because you have hidden bias.

It’s supposed to look kinda like the bugs in AQ. That’s why.
Yeah well that’s just like your opinion, man.

Because bugs have lousy fashion sense.

Umm excuse me? The feral tank helm from AQ looks like something a vaguely samurai themed power ranger villain who loves purple would wear. And if that’s wrong I don’t want to be right.

The weapons are rather horrible looking in many regard, especially the quest weapons that are CRAFTED by Dragons, you would think they would be a bit more elegant.
As for the tier sets, well, they are made from the corpses of a bunch of bugs, so it’s kinda to be expected. I am one of those people who like you originally did not care much for the look of 2.5, but it did grow on me also at the same time, and now days I just like it because there has never been anything since that was ever any place near that level of unique.
Even in retail where they come out with armor sets and items that look like a straight up kindergartener painted them, still nothing as interestingly unique as 2.5 has ever came about since.
Those weapons are what dragons consider elegant, our idea of elegance is only what a lesser race would think elegance is.

Its themed. Bug themed. And it fits the theme pretty well. Overall I’d call it successful design.

2.5 is fine, the off-pieces look like doodoo and clash hard!
idk if anyone else noticed but both AQ raids are super bland and boring visually.
Like compare ZG to AQ20 for instance. It’s night and day difference in detail and variety.
The fighting itself is fun but everything else looks like a rushed placeholder imo.
AQ has quite a few new models, though, doesn’t it?
That’s a good point, a very good point.
Most of the gear in WoW looks like hot garbage. Occasionally some class/spec will get something that looks great but that seems more the exception rather than the rule.
Take a look at fashion in the real-world. There’s really only so many variations you can make of stuff that has a dozen or so distinctive looks while remaining cohesive. Especially with the limitations of having being in a game and having to stretch over model meshes, being displayed in a small amount of pixels, rendering quickly, and so on.

IT doesn’t though. The AQ sets are actually sexy.
You know you’ll equipt that upgrade.
Weapons and tier sets (to an extent) sure, outside of that Its a mishmash of absurdity. Take a look at some of the BiS lists for several specs/classes, its clowns x 1000%

You didn’t sign up for Classic if you didn’t want to look like a clown. Especially warriors with their bright-pink boots and yellow gloves.
Looks like stuff that would come out of a bug hive, fitting imo.

I meant creature models. I know a lot of the gear looks terrible.
The only gear I think is decent visually wise, is much of the low to mid level stuff in vanilla, and a lot of the stuff in wotlk. The rest seems to be designed by someone with no inspiration beyond making things absurdly large, bizarre, and like trash heaps.
Power is gauged by how ludicrous the gear looks (especially shoulders).
