Why does a group of players seem to desire tedium in gaming?

Have been seeing them surface as of patch but they always existed… what drives this kind of player exactly?

They will praise slower travel and daze as a mechanic want grinds that last forever but only with entry level world content and will continually praise the game for making people " work" for rewards.

All while shunning any difficulty beyond lfr… its like a weird anti gameplay group of people who play video games. Can anyone explain to me the mindset? From my perspective these people seem like they are disappointed loading screens don’t last longer.

Idk

Why does a group of players need to whine whenever another group wants a different thing

Weirdest thing I’ve read here in quite some time. (That’s an accomplishment!)

I’m gonna need a source for this. I’ve never seen anyone say they like daze.

Yea, idk anyone who likes daze. Pretty sure every single person uses that mount equipment I forget the name of that removes it as a mechanic completely.

They walk among us. If you ask them to remove daze they will start an argument with you about just wanting rewards not gameplay…while refusing to engage with most of the game.

Honestly feels like im talking about lizard people.

I dunno, I’m doubting specifically on the daze argument. You can definitely find someone to defend just about any design decision, but daze is one of those things that I wouldn’t be afraid to say is universally hated by the community.

Why are you playing an MMO if you don’t care for immersion? There are other games to play if all you care about is drip-feeding dopamine.

Like, to be clear, one of the biggest things many players agree on is that the world of World of Warcraft is one of the most important aspects of the game. Why do you think it is better for the game to explicitly minimize one of the core aspects of said game?

Im thinking someone was dazed IRL at the moment to make this thread

Why do you care? Do your own thing.

Wait you’re saying there’s people who want the game to be full on hardcore mode by default with world content, lvl, and make rewards hard to get… but these same people don’t do anything harder than LFR?

I have never seen anyone like this in my life, in any game not just WoW.

I 100% believe you are making a wild generalization with 2 different groups of people because you see both of them in the same screen and you think life is you VS everyone else in your screen.

Posting in a thread based entirely on a strawman.

Probably classic players I would think. Thats how I remember classic anyways, To each their own.

waiting for an offended Drakthyr to respond

SoD is amazing. A lot of things in Classic are just better - infuse Classic with modernized gameplay and new content like SoD has done, and it’s the superior version of the game.

I would say SoD would be the best expansion of all-time if PvP wasn’t kind of a disaster. As it is, it’s only the second best “expansion” (behind TBC IMO).

Maaaaaybe a PvPer chasing someone who is trying to run away on a ground mount? :person_shrugging:

As someone who likes an immersive RPG I would prefer it to have RPG elements :woman_shrugging:

Retail has catered to people who don’t actually want to be playing an RPG and would fair better in a game like overwatch.

This is why classic is superior

Like others, I think your post is a bit on the nose with some weird ways to describe the type of player that I know you’re trying to describe.

There have been some studies on player engagement when it comes to difficulty. Some research suggests that more players quit X game because it’s not challenging enough vs quitting if they perceive a challenge to be literally impossible. The very small minority of players who enjoy the super easy, very immersive playstyle are the same ones who are doing what you’re describing.

They are a minority of gamers and project themselves as a majority. Types of gamers can be attributed to a bell curve, and unfortunately, many here will disagree. Good thing facts don’t care about opinions. Most people fall in the middle of said bell curve, with some leaning to one side or the other. You can enjoy immersion without enjoying daze mechanics, for example, and you’d still not fall into the same category as those who argue FOR dazing.

All of this can be confirmed through recent, as well as on-going psychological research in gaming, as well as various GDC reports. One study that comes to mind was published around 2017-2020 range (I don’t remember the exact year) by IJSG.

IDK. i gave up after being stuck at level 15ish for so long, still stuck with 6 slot bags, and being forever broke gaining pennies as rewards for quests. it was nice seeing the world before cata but the gameplay was so sluggish.
