Pve has obviously always been the focus in wow, but PvP has had a very strong backing by blizz from its inception. And there’s then effort to provide new content, update content and balance somewhat class PvP abilities.
But I think we can all agree the light is barely on PvP. What gives here? Is it just the devs are already maxed out on pve content? Is the PvP player base smaller than we think?
I’m not sure if you’re saying that there’s more raids and dungeons and delves, than total pvp maps, but you’d be right if you did. As far as tuning goes, they’ve been doing tuning passes very regularly for pvp. If tuning is bad for pvp in your opinion, what is it that you’re looking to be changed?
I think they put less effort into it as participation in it dropped, but participation in it dropped because they put less effort into making it a more attractive game mode. The cycle continues.
We have gotten two new game modes and a new bg in two expansions. We get new arena maps all the time and we always have pvp only changes in the patch notes. It’s not really that bad imo.
Bad would be a compliment. This is unacceptable garbage. Imagine if PvE side got this kinda content in the 20+ years this game has been out. It would be dead f2p. Every major patch PVE gets new content, new tier, everything. We get recolors. We don’t even get our own special tier sets like the old days, just recolors. They won’t even put Tol Barad in the queue rotation. We haven’t gotten a new epic bg in almost 15 years. Imagine your life, what has happened and changed in it in 15 years? Exactly…pathetic. We should be getting an epic and normal battleground theme every expansion launch at bare minimum. You people have been brainwashed to accept mediocrity, to accept NOTHING while still paying full box price and a monthly sub, especially if you only play to pvp. This game should be f2p for all straight pvpers.

Yes and no. They do updates but the last 2 expansions tuning got less and less frequent as the expansions went on. We just get no communication and they are just kind of leaving rated PvP to rot in the sense the rating system and reward structures need big overhauls and have for a long time. I am going to be very interested to see if PvP is included in the 11.2 season rewards restructure/update listed.
Because players who PvP as a main activity are in the tiny minority of the game’s overall population, in retail at least.
We’re only between 5% to 15% of the retail player base from what I could gather. Can you really blame Blizzard not allocating much to development for that 5%-15%?
Plus our community is toxic, like really toxic. Any time Blizzard does make a good change such as adding blitz, people go everywhere screaming about how it’s the worst thing ever and ruined the game. Even to this day there are people calling for Blitz to be removed.
Dude that isn’t a pvp only thing. M+ experience the same toxicity, gatekeeping, elitism and crying but still get blizzard to communicate, fix things and add more content almost immediately.
For pvp, the variety in gameplay that promotes replayability in my opinon is spec design changes, more so than new maps. One month you might be playing spec X because it gets something new and exciting, another you might be playing spec y because it gets something cool. If the combat never changed because the specs never changed, we all would have been bored out of our minds and playing a different game years ago.
Let me just… Go to twitch… And click browse and check the WoW game… And…
I went 27 streamers down before I found the first one doing PvP. It’s Supatease. Over half the entire WoW stream watchers are in those first 26.
Don’t get me wrong, I know there are bigger PvP streamers. I’m just saying, this sort of thing represents the community’s general interest in PvP. It’s low.
AKA
Because Blizzard makes more money from casual and PvE players.
Now check all the other big mmos
Its been over a decade some of them got anything new like ESO.
FFXIV got some new stuff!.. in shadowbringers which was 4 years ago. And nothing since launch lol.
Albion online? got a lot of new… pve zones and its a pvp focused game.
GW2 has less BGs than wow has deleted BGs
New world, lol.
BDO? War of the roses!.. and nothing else since forever.
Funny thing is that in general WoW do have more content and regular updates regarding pvp than other mmos that even focus on pvp.
Reality is that mmo pvp is just considered subpar and bad when compared to other games whcih actually try to have a competitive scene. Most of the MMO playerbase is not interested in it.
Uh, no.
They are actually much faster and better than shadowlands, BfA and Legion in this regard.
I think it’s mostly because they don’t understand it and dislike it (the two go hand in hand). After that it is also very difficult to design and balance well. They don’t have the time or talent to do that, and they would rather invest in easier PvE content.
Not trying to be contrary here but I will disagree.
They are always tuning classes/specs. I guess it depends on what you want to see as far as support.
I am in agreement with you in wanting more put into pvp that is certain. As crtitical as we can be I think neither of us would want the task of doing their job.
Wouldn’t hurt to list some items/actions that you think would benefit/improve pvp.
