Why do you play WoW over other games?

Time invested.

I feel like I’ve stated this same sentiment in another thread, but I’ve got a lot in this game. Time put in still means something - when you joined, what you did. It all carries over with you.

Earning things before they go away means your time invested at any time matters. It’s not cheap. You get rewarded for being there when you’re there. You can carry that over your whole time in this game. Playing a single-player game or another multiplayer game without that aspect just feels like there’s not a lot of growth going on with the game.

And the focus on group accomplishment. Most of my hobbies IRL are solo-focused. When I’m not doing this I’m with the family or at work, I don’t really get a lot of time to enjoy something with a crowd of people. Raiding feels that spot in a convenient way.

Nah, I’m not looking to make a mod/skin/add-on for someone else’s world (I mean I’ve done that on a small scale in other games/platforms/languages long ago and now they’re all just dead files on decaying floppy discs and it hurts. No, my fantasy was to design something from the bottom up.

(besides, my coding skills are painfully rusty - what creative energy I have left is going into pencil-and-paper game stuff)

Will you try pantheon mmo??

i do play other games though, you mean that you dont?

been playing doom eternal and destiny 2 lately

I have been playing skyrim special edition on legendary difficulty with no mods except community patch. And skyrim on highest difficulty is really fun

Makes sense, it was a bit tricky to articulate what I meant… but the analogy seems largely spot on.

I mostly meant it as an activity you’d do while trying to relax and/or unable to muster up the energy to go after something which which is more “demanding”. Seems that’s the case for quite a few people, it definitely can become a habit of sorts to play the game in that way.

More or less, yes. It’s a bit of a challenge to get detailed responses out of the forums at times… though this topic has been quite successful in that regard.

I’ve never gotten that genre’s popularity. Probably the only ones I found fun there were the original Halo trilogy and the prequel Reach (and even then, mostly the first game for the campaign and Forge Mode).

Understood. I was just throwing out the “level editor” suggestion as it can hit some of the same notes if you aren’t able to fully get into the real deal.

Are you playing classic wow ??

because I am too lazy to start over somewhere else after investing so much time and money into wow :stuck_out_tongue: because if i wasn’t BFA would’ve made me quit this right away.

I think a LOT of people who started over there and play retail have given up on Classic.

I know we have over here, all the fun specs are specs no one wants in end game lol. I knew it would be like this, played vanilla since the start, but figured I’d try anyway.

well i play plenty of games but why do i still play wow? attachment to the story the characters, my long time invested . more importantly why do you care?

By this point is just feels like a habit. Been going for over 15 years. That is longer than I’ve held any one job. After all this time its just gotten ingrained in my daily routine.

Bots have quite ruined the game.

I really don’t care about bots honestly, sometimes I might even like them when they keep mat prices low lol.

I really like the Pandaren. I have a bunch of panda stuff irl. I’m a butt gal. They’re super cute with nice lore. A panda in a Western MMO is obviously pretty rare. There should be more pandas in games!

I still also play GW2. Tried ESO but found it was only fun with a friend and only because of that friend. Couldn’t get into it alone.

I know this will always be my main game and becuase I only have time to play 4 or 5 hours a week now that I am a parent of 3, that means it is pretty much my only game. I love this game mainly because of the artwork: environments, armor/weapons, creatures, etc. It allows me to step into and explore this awesome world for a bit of time. I know I will never be able to play PVP or Raid seriously because my computer is old and i dont have time but I can just enjoy pretending to be different characters in thei beautiful world and play the story like I am reading an interactive book. It is so great! I wish there was more bad luck protection on getting items though. I do not have tons of time to spend on running things over and over to maybe never get the cool Warfront Items I desperately want.

WoW’s story.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I play WoW over other games. WoW’s community also play other games.

This keeps me away from other games. I’m long past the point of farming bear asses, in new games be prepared to do that for your next hundred hours or so. I tried getting into XIV and the number of things I had to do just to get moving was overwhelming. Every once in awhile I glance at it, seems to be only getting better, and there were things about it that I like that I just didn’t give it a chance in order to see. Still though, starting over with nothing in an MMO can be bonkers. Recently tried PSO2 and I don’t think I can keep up with it, it isn’t as deep or large as this game but twice as complex. Not a good mix.

At least in this game I have 9 capped characters and can pretty much do whatever I want, even if I level from 1 I do it with heirlooms and other perks I’ve built up over the years.

To be fair, it’s not without good reason. I hate pandas. The only saving grace I can say is that Pandas are extremely rare and Monks are extremely rare so I rarely have to deal with the MoP “lore” infecting my World of Warcraft. You’re obviously entitled to like your own thing, I’ll just say I’m glad most games don’t have this stuff in it.

Because I am not exactly enjoying anything in my life, so I log in WoW to AFK, other games require you to play. Basically WoW is what I would most likely do if I existed inside WoW. Sit on a bench in Mage Quarter.
