Why do you play druid?

Good evening,

I mained a resto druid in vanilla because, I’ll be honest, being a hybrid seemed like a cool idea at the time. That, and I had no idea how much more I enjoyed some of the other classes. Make no mistake, I enjoyed resto and I was a top raiding resto druid, but I haven’t played druid since vanilla. There were just so many other classes that were better at doing things when compared to the druid class.

That said, the class has always had a fond place in my heart - I’ve always loved the aesthetic of the class, and the idea of having different forms was always intriguing. With the Shadowlands here, and the terribly long queue times of being a DPS class… I’ve been thinking of playing either a tank or healer. Then I got to thinking… why not play a class that can do either? Besides, I see far more druid healers than I do any other tanks… except for maybe paladins.

So, I ask you… since it has been 10+ years since I’ve played a druid longer than a few minutes… why do YOU play druid?

  1. I like cats

  2. Cats are cool

  3. I have the lady of war title on my druid

  4. I have 3 cats

  5. It’s like a rogue, but more versatile

  6. Paly is gonna get nerfed into the ground tomorrow, probably, so I’m getting ready for my druid to become my main

  7. Cat form dance is the best in the game

I’m an altoholic, so Druid allows me to play 4 different ways on the same class.

Because of Feral Combat’s original design philosophy, if I performed well I could take damage, deal damage, and battle rez.
This has made a small return in HoTW but still isn’t there yet. The legendary Oath of the Elder Druid really helps though, I have a useful bear form again, while having bash, and can put out some numbers.

I really hope they continue to go in this direction.
I always thought the break up of Feral/Guardian was wrong just from a gameplay standpoint but now I feel it’s actually worse as any changes* impacts 3 other specs vs 2 and they seem to really steer away from change when at all possible.
I hope they keep going in the shapeshifter direction they have so far like with the talent, the leggo, and torghast powers.
I really love using multiple forms and shifting back and forth.

Second best. Shammy in spirit raptor form is best.

I get to be a rogue without having to be a stupid rogue.

Also travel form and self heals.

Feral is so much fun in world PVP for me and convoke is just insane, I was looking for a class that had a teleport for utility reasons, leather is my favorite armor set, and collecting druid appearances is hella fun (hope they add more) and self heals and I can off tank with my friends when I want to and I can go invis which has so many uses.

I wanted to play an uncapped AOE spec that also had a tanking spec.

That left exactly one option. Balance/Guardian.

But in general I like being able to fill multiple roles.

I’m a druid IRL

And Feral! Don’t forget us!

sàmhach! na innis sin dhaibh! Chan eil cearcall nan draoidhean fhathast deiseil airson an cruinneachadh a chruinneachadh agus a choileanadh!

Also, I play druid because, after thoroughly trying everything else (minus 2-4 specs here and there), it’s by far what I like most. It just has…everything I want.

All I’m getting out of that is a lot of chihuahua

According to google translate, that was Scottish Gaelic. …

And when I plugged it back into google for a re-english version, it’s not exactly what I meant to say. Bad druid IRL

I’ll show myself out.

I actually started out with a Priest in vanilla and tbc! Which is weird - cuz I started to figure out that the hot style was more my flavor of play (I was obsessed with heavy renew ticks)

So it was a play style thing. I like how active Druids are when they play compared to standing and healing still as a priest. Shapeshifting to do different things during combat was always super cool.

Also keeper was my favorite unit in warcraft 3 so it was weird I didn’t pick them to begin with

Because casting shilleileigh on a large sized greatclub and picking up heavy armor proficiency and crafting +3 ironwood armor barding for your dire ape wildshape form and winning an argument with the DM that there is no reason you cant use weapons if it has thumbs and basically having fighter attack rolls with full spellcasting buffs and a pet is fun.

So heres my boomkin story… From way before warcraft.
We were doing Temple of Elemental Evil, but the DM ran it so the town of Homlet, the main story hub, betrayed us and stole a great amount of money from us. I was true neutral and did NOT approve. The party was making plans to sneak in and rob the town’s mage’s tower and come out ahead. I had other plans.

Wildshaped into a chicken and stood in the middle of town in a flock of other chicikens. Cast call lightning and started destroying everything, which takes time. Recast it and destroyed more buildings and the people trying to put out the fires from the first cast… cast it again two more times for the same results.
Won argument with the DM that the citizenry and guards wouldn’t find it unusual that a chicken would be cawing madly during the destruction because that’s a normal chicken behavior and I got to watch front row while the rest of the party had to sit outside the town planning how they were going to sneak in. Don’t ever be the town that screws over the party…

My first druid ever was an AD&D specialty priest that spend most of his time in Cave Bear form.

Currently running a Pathfinder 2e druid who spends most of his time as a cat.
Been a long time.

Not enough time to play multiple characters, I wanted to be able to experience TANK DPS and Healer I love versatility and stealth.

Remember when we neeed to grind FACTIONS/professions gear and everything was super time consuming thats why I only put 100% into a single character to be geared and lvled up

you could run dungeons/quests as healer/tank and get gear along the way for other specs or rep vendors usually had gear for multiple specs.

Oh yeah and I LOVE SPEED druid is full of it

^^^ This.

Altoholic, but always come back to druid since it can do it all. On top of that, as it stands today, balance is top tier (nerfs inc?), feral has climbed a bit, resto is resto, and guardian holds its own. Not much to complain about…'cept guardian damage.
