I legitimately didn’t plan on playing Classic at all, honestly. But I have a WoW itch and BfA just isn’t scratching it for me at all, I’ve tried, but I just can’t seem to enjoy it in the same way I enjoyed the game in the past.
I think my biggest reason for playing Classic is that I’m excited to actually be able to do dungeons again, rather than just rushing through because of Mythic+ and how it’s made max level and heroic dungeons pointless. I miss being able to just do dungeons instead of the gogogo of M+ and I’m really excited to be able to do that again in Classic.
What about Classic has made you decide to play it? Is there any specific thing you’re looking forward to being able to experience again that isn’t in the game anymore?
I know everyone’s shutting it down already because things were much more difficult and tedious, but, I think it’s a form of tedious I’m looking for much more than that in BfA.
I will admit I’m not excited for the tedium, but it’s 100% worth suffering through it for me if I actually get to do dungeons again the old way instead of being pigeonholed into Mythic+. Dungeons in WoW have always been my favorite part of the game.
TBH I don’t plan to spend much time on Classica. What I do want is to recreate my dwarf paladin and have some fun on AV for like a month then go back to current and forget about classica again.
I want to play my warrior again and not give up and leave his corpse in Desolace at 33. It took until almost LK for me to realize I was just bad in classic.
Leveling is definitely a grind, but man, at least it’s not a timegated grind. I can completely deal with grinding out levels way more than logging on every day to make small progress filling up a little reputation bar and then getting to a point where the game is like “that’s all the progress you can make for today, go log off and play something else”. I am so sick of timegated grinds that it will be refreshing to just finally be able to play for the amount of time I feel like again.
I legit didn’t plan on playing Classic because there’s no flying, but no timegated grinds and I can actually do dungeons the old way again? I’m freaking sold. That alone is so much better to me over the current game.
I really, really want to play a Shadow Priest but I’m not confident in my ability to charm my way into groups and raid spots. And I know I’d be generally frowned upon for not wanting to be a healer.
Classic was very original and immersive, personal and exploratory. since then tho… down hill with each patch. Im looking forward to going back to the original thought
A lot of my friends miss the sense of community and social aspect of classic, that’s why they want to play it again instead of retail. I played in classic but I will probably not be playing it again when it comes out…it’s like taking a giant leap backwards, but instead of everyone being nooby, you’re going to get the current wow mentality today in a classic setting. That’ll be quite interesting to see.
I’m most excited for the old quest lore. Lot of cool stories we don’t have access to.
Also up there is I’m excited to have totems back. While my preference is how totems worked during cata era I’m just happy to have actual meaningful totems to place down.
I’m excited for more truly RPG elements to be re-introduced. While some of the QoL changes over time have been nice, i miss some of the immersion that the “inconveniences” brough with them. Things like class quests and even class trainers.
I’m also excited for Old Org. What a gorgeous city.
Like the OP i’m also excited for a shift away from the Timed nature of dungeons.
I’m excited to just be an adventurer again. A random “unit” making his way in the world of warcraft.
There’s definitely a lot of things i’ll miss whenever i’m playing classic. Xmog and updated art to name a few, but there’s plenty of things that will bring what I personally look or hope for from an MMORPG
I didn’t get to do any of the end game stuff because I didn’t really know anyone back then. Just leveled 3 characters and worked on what I could. This time around I’d like to see end game raids and instances.
I plan on playing a shaman and I’m definitely excited to have totems back, too. I will say I am not looking forward to those old quests to get them though, I remember how awful they were lol. But that’s the thing, no matter how awful they were, the reward of having totems back again is totally worth it. Same with the grind to level and gear to be able to do max level dungeons and raids. And it’s not a timegated grind, either!
That’s the main difference for me between BfA and Classic. The grinds in Classic are tedious, yes, but the reward at the end is actually worth it, the reward is being able to do some amazing, fun content. The rewards for tedious grinds in BfA are new races and flying, things we used to just get for free with a new expansion or could just buy with gold, so it will never feel worth it to me, and the grind will always feel more tedious because of that and because it’s timegated.
One can only spend so much time alt+tabbed seeking… divine inspiration… whilst waiting for auto-attacks and retribution aura + shield spikes to kill something.
I’m actually excited for the totem quests. One of the things I love about FFXIV is how i earn some of my spells through class lore related quests. Immersion stuff like this is why i love mmos
But yeah the grind in classic is long and hard, but it’s set up how grinding is supposed to be in an RPG. The grind in retail is just it’s own awkward thing that feel more like a check list. The grind in classic makes sense. It may suck at times but it makes sense.
