Professions are so bizarre right now. Armor crafting has been a total miss; from crafting the Legendary ‘blanks’ to having no epics to the pointless crafter’s marks.
Enchanting seems completely devoid of variety.
Alchemy has been simplified in the most obscene way.
Engineering exists. It’s just there, taking up space.
Jewelcrafting still suffers from the lack of gem variety. Mists of Pandaria literally showered you in colors, while Shadowlands is friggin Red, Blue, and Yellow.
Inscription is a one trick pony.
You can’t even farm mats anymore because of all the damn bots tanking the prices to obscene levels.
Why do you even waste time creating the illusion of proffessions when its clear that they have no place in this new WoW?

Been going on since Legion. Professions got dumped on their heads, not even sure how this works out in a whiteboard / conference room situation.
The Legion Engineering helm was called “Gun Helmet” and it had an on use effect that fired a bullet that did 1 damage.
The Legion teleport they gave us allowed us to teleport to a random location in dalaran.
I remember talking about it on the forums briefly and just quitting the game a few weeks in.

The only useful profession seems to be Alchemy, yet again.

Current devs have no passion for the game. 9-5 corporate drones that are just working for their pay. Don’t expect the game to ever improve again.
Hope for riot’s MMO to succeed. At least they have Ghostcrawler.

So we’ve come full circle. I member the days where he was as hated as Ion.

I’ve played over multiple accounts since 2006 and I never once complained about Ghostcrawler. Ion has no business being lead dev.

That’s nice. I’ve been posting on these forums since 2005 and I remember when he was blamed for everything.

Good for you, keep licking the boot.

How am I “licking the boot?”

hard to have a original idea when you are scared you will be fired for a good idea a week later.

You’re always in these threads shilling for Blizzard, like some greentext wannabe.

Your fantasies about me are odd. I’ve posted several times in different threads today that I don’t like SL and I’m taking a break.

At this point, the only strong profession seems to be Fishing and Cooking; fishing for the Gold, Cooking for the buffs.
Might as well Herb and Alch for the heal pots and flasks.
He was available. That’s all. Sure some people took issue with his preferences, but mostly he was just available to holler at. And he knew that.
He still talks to players and answers questions about developing.
His vision of WoW was not one I always agreed with but I respected the crap out of him. The guy CARES about the games he makes and the people he makes them for.

I wasn’t saying he deserved the blame, I had no opinion on the topic, but that doesn’t change the fact he was truly hated by the forums, just like Ion is now.
And… some how saying that makes me a “boot licker?”

Professions, generally, have always seemed to me to a bit of an afterthought, even since Vanilla.
Sometimes, theY create these great things and a good reason for two, three or four of them, but then just make the others meaningless.
It varies expansion to expansion, but this always seemed to me to be such a missed opportunity for the game.
- Pick Herbing
- Pick Mining
Why?
Make a few million during the expansion. Also, everything else is basically useless. Though I will drop mining for engineering because of the teleporter.

Has been my choice exactly. At least its fairly reliable.
I was upset when I saw the launch state of things.
Then I had a think…it looks to me like the professions are set up as part of a whole. I suspect, *fingers crossed, that what we have is part of a more cohesive crafting system for the entire expansion.
I personally have had some good use out of crafting and approve of the “chase” aspect of the legendary blanks…though I think crafting 5 per rank would have been better (that might be the ‘dragon laying on it’s hoard and not liking to use any of it’s majesty to make stuff’ part of my soul speaking TBH).
Really it was WoD that killed professions. From allowing players to make gear even if they did not know the profession to the RNG stats that weren’t close to what you need, making your own gear became useless. The same goes for the gathering trades where you could get all of the materials you needed without leaving your garrison. For me they should have stuck with MoP design as the professions were meaningful for out fitting characters and for making extra gold via the AH.
