Why do WoW players hate WoW so much?

For me it comes down to watching something you’ve loved for a long time be slowly withered into a husk of what it once was.
It’s the LotR treatment.
Sjw writers will do that tho :woman_shrugging:

WoW is ran by a problematic GM, who can’t be kicked out or banned from the store since they own it.

That’s why you see such a love/hate relationship between them and us as consumers.

Because they are being disingenuous to themselves.

Wow players dont hate wow, what you are experiencing is the general forums that has a small group of regulars that hates on everything.

Im betting its because they have no one to listen to thier doom and gloom so they frequent forums.

Spend a week or two trying to have some valid discussions and you’ll see them troll your threads and everyone elses daily, it doesn’t take long before you recognize them.

Your actions speak louder than your hollow claims. Keep throwing tantrums to prove how sane you are.

Mirror, mirror. Every accusation is a confession. For many years on the forum you have been posting aggressively as though you were Blizzard’s attack dog.

It’s because there have been clear patterns of failure that were ignored for years and doubling down on bad design choices. Like dailies, WQs and such they know are unpopular. Where they made these unpopular features required to get flying and other necessities. That’s where most of the animosity comes from.

And the story which was severely damaged in BFA → Shadowlands pissed off a lot of legacy Warcraft players.

If you were looking at WoW 20 years ago you’d think it would be heading towards something like EverQuest which preceded it. Instead it just became a chop shop of the same garbage features refined over and over again.

People think WoW was popular for its design when it was popular for its Warcraft IP. Devs apparently think this is also true because they keep implementing the same bad ideas. Ideas that the fanbase is tired of.

Look at the modern online games. Like Fortnite, GTA, etc. A commonality here is that the world exists to facilitate P2P gameplay. It’s not trying to be a Hollywood movie spliced up into time gated dailies and world quests. These modern games are closer to EQ 99’ than most realize. Anyone that can’t see that it’s too bad for you.

Here are the reasons why:

Dragonflight is good, but it is not GOTY material. Certainly not when put against a game like Elden Ring which had a better story, better art, and just an all around great game. We may like WoW, but we aren’t deluding ourselves into thinking its the best game on the market.

Also, the GOTY awards were in February - and Elden Ring won. So you seem to be out of the loop here. Especially if you are posting about it now, in June. If you just woke up from a 5 month coma, I am sorry you missed the news.

Clearly you’ve never read the Final Fantasy forums.

People rarely come on to forums to say good things about a game in general. They come to complain about problems with the game, and are looking for either people to agree with them, to vent, an official response, or some combination of all those.

It’s a known rule in business that a small percentage of people will generate a large percentage of the complaints. And compared to the number of people who actually play WoW, that’s what the forums are.

I can’t really judge WoW anymore since pathfinder and the squishes caused me to stop playing.

Hey, you can’t come to GD and say anything nice about the game because then you’re obviously a shill. Don’t you know the only cool kids talk smack about the game? Jeez, where’ve you been OP?

Pretty sure Dragonflight missed the GOTY cutoff for 2022, which means it’ll be in for 2023.

That being said, I don’t think any game is going to obliterate the lineup like Elden Ring did last year, but I still don’t see WoW beating out games like Zelda or the RE4 remake.

D4 is def going to pick up some awards as well.

https://www.interactive.org/awards/award_category_details.asp?idAward=2023&idGameAwardType=123

It didn’t miss the cutoff (GOW: Ragnarok was released a week earlier and won 6 awards), and it wasn’t even up for GOTY, it was up for RPG GOTY (which Elden Ring took as well.)

He tried so hard … and …got so far… but in the end … it doesn’t even matter.

Ah my mistake, was looking at a different orgs GOTY awards which has the cut-off at Nov 14th (DF was released on Nov 28).

The standard “u mad” rebuttal. Well thought out.

Can I play this game too?

For many years you have been throwing tantrums to show how sane you are by being one of those attack dogs that goes after anything Blizzard does.

It doesn’t matter if you have to make up things and lie to get your point across, as you literally just did. The important part is that you throw your anti Blizzard tantrum.

Cause being anti Bliz on the Blizz forums is how you get your cool points.

There’s this thing called nostalgia, but it only works when said thing is truly gone.

It’s like a long lost relative that we argued with in life, but then terribly miss in passing. We demand WoW to fulfill such lofty and exceedingly impossible expectations.

We grew up loving it when we were young. Got mad in our adolescence. Then some moved away, but many remained trying to capture those ephemeral moments.

Then as it ages, those that care for it. These people Don’t do it well enough. And you’d say you could do better.

WoW players don’t hate WoW… they hate current WoW. they hate how the game has changed from manly sweaty orcs beating the crap out of heavily-armored human knights, to give peace a chance! and non-muscular dragon-boys.

also the huge amount of busy-work they keep shoving down our throats each expansion… seriously, i got sick of world-quests back in bfa, and that was an expansion or two ago!

What about the producers, directors and actors that love everything about Star Wars except the massive list of things they want to change?

Look up the definition of “toxic positivity”. While I wouldn’t describe DF as “isn’t good” I wouldn’t call it phenomenal either. Which is a problem when it followed up two expansions that objectively lost us roughly 80% of the player base or approximately the biggest blow to WoW’s health since WoD. Blizz could absolutely do better, and yeah, game is old as dirt, even Everquest which is OLDER has revamped their game some to have more capacity and functionality like more modern games… WoW doesn’t even have proper emotes and less-than-basic character customization.

The longer WoW puts off upgrading to post 2000 standards, the longer it’ll take to actually convert and the more money and resources it’ll take, we’re already 10 expansions and 18 years of art assets in, by this point Microsoft buying Acti-blizzard and actually pumping money into just that is probably best.
