Did you just completely skip over what I said about fantasy terrain in your attempt to be smugly dismissive?
In any other game, the world is still respected and treated as a world. Exploration is encouraged and rewarded. For example, in ESO daze can be trained away for every mount and there is a sprint button that makes you go blindingly fast. Like probably as fast as flighted WoW (even though it’s still grounded). ON TOP of instant waypoints. FFXIV has flight, AND instant waypoints. GW2 has platforming and no flying, yes, but it’s engine was clearly built for it from the ground up and it’s rocks are scaleable and lookie what it has - mounts that can jump really high and glide and OH LOOK WAYPOINTS!
All of those games have answers to fast travel that are much better than WoW’s. All of those games have vast worlds and at least attempt immersion. WoW both spits in the face of old school exploration with tiny crap worlds and tries to be a grognard about old school MMO travel.
It can’t have it both ways. Trying to do so is why the modern game’s travel feels like pulling teeth.
Feedback is fine – but not every piece of feedback is equal. People in customer service or in any part that has to deal with consumer relations will tell you – a lot of customers are dumb and usually dont know what the hell they are talking about.
It just feels like they hate their players these days. Everything they share is spiteful.
I understand that some players are over the top balls of toxic incel rage and stuff, but that’s not the entire community. Like, you got folks hopping over on r/Asmongold and sharing their view on those guys and how they call out devs and stuff… But that’s all you get from them.
The only communication we ever see from the warcraft team is either how much they hate a subset of the players, virtue signaling, or drama about their workplace.
I’m all for supporting these guys in getting a better-feeling workplace, but I never signed on for this. I just want a good game from a company that values my presence in it.
Probably because they hear from every Tom, Dick and Harry about what’s wrong with their game and what they should be doing. Yet they probably can’t do squat about it because the execs are telling them to make the game a certain way.
It’s like tanking in classic, pretty soon you get sick of everyone telling you what gear you should be using, what talents you should spec, what trinkets you should use, etc. etc.
Yup and during 9.1 beta people were telling and giving useful feed that the SoD gems are not balance with unholy set for a good 10% more damage than the other sets. People also pointed out is a bad system how ability to get the gems and the armor to put the gems in are too random and have too much RNG built. Blizzard didn’t listen to a thing release 9.1 and created this whole mess where everyone wants the unholy sets and get piss off when they got the other gems. Then people who actually have the unholy set getting piss off coz they didn’t get the armor piece to put them on. So they managed to pias off a ton of people. Then blizzard decided to nerf the unholy sets only to oiss off even more people who farm LFR normal heroic and mythic to get the gems and armor to put them in. They last min blizzard decided not to nerf the unholy set instead buff the other.
Except it is their job/goal to make a product that the consumer likes and will pay for. When a consumer does not like a product made they will complain. They’ll complain even more when they use to like the product and then it was changed to something they no longer like. It is a company’s goal to make as much money as possible and to keep customers as a whole happy. They can’t please everyone, but it should be their goal to retain as many as they can.
They shouldn’t have the mindset of it being their game and therefore they will do what they want. That is how a product/company fails. If their vision of a product doesn’t mesh with their consumers, it won’t do well. You have to compromise. They do not compromise until the end of an expansion, just to repeat the same mistakes for the next one. Thus, you have angered players and they have the right to complain about a product they pay for.
Just because they work 8 hours a day (probably more in a lot of cases), doesn’t mean they are immune to criticism for a product deemed not worth the money.
Problem is, the devs have been spiteful since WoD. It hasn’t gotten better since. And with the fact they don’t listen to any feedback, they don’t provide any communication officially about the game, they don’t interact with the playerbase at all other than to make snide remarks on Twitter, it’s all a recipe for a very antagonistic relationship between developer and player. Blizzard has absolutely done this to themselves; they have made themselves as much the villain as the rest of their company.
There need to be monumental changes in both how the company operates and the mindset of both players and developers, but that will only come about if each side meets halfway. And while the developers love to condemn the players, they’re over in their corner not at all attempting to reach a hand out to anyone. They’d rather berate people for hating their systems rather than make the systems not suck to begin with…
Oh you mean from GD where most of the feedback is “Blizzard sucks.” “WoW sucks.” “Fire Ion” etc. Yeah I wonder why they don’t respond/like feedback. Also things like “Stop gating.” “Give us flying at max level so we can skip most of the content you made for us.” “Give me a BiS vault item every week.” yeahhh wonder why again why they don’t listen.
Do you even know what exactly it takes to develop a game and keep people subbed? It is cute though you try and be cool and edgy with your comment here though. Maybe it is time for you to move on.
This is the worst argument. You don’t need to be a 5 star chef to see that bread is moldy. The game is in probably the worst state it’s ever been, you don’t need to have 10 years of game design experience to see that.
The devs are incompetent. The shards of domination system shows that. Want to know what would have been better than shards of domination? Nothing, doing nothing would have been better. If you create a game system and a better alternative would be not creating any system at all, you are incompetent.
